Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Good morning my Purple Pals!

I too would LOVE getting together!!! I really see that as a goal---not just to lose this weight, but to meet the friends I have made along the way! That is one of the reasons I wanted to make the address exchange list to share amongst ourselves...I do not want one of you disappearing and not knowing how to find out if you are ok or not! Back when I was first banded there was a woman in a thread we all chatted daily, just like we do here, and one day Donna just quit posting....we give her a few days, then began PM'ing her, nothing, no response EVER! She had a son going to Iraq, and she was beside herself...and every single day I wonder about Donna, and hope and pray she is ok. Most of the rest of us in that thread, touch base every few days still....we have weathered births, and deaths, and highs and lows. But for someone to disappear from here, and have no way to check on you scares me!!! I will send the list out to you guys as soon as I copy them all on to one sheet to send!!!

So...if you have not PM'd me your home address and contact info (for Christmas card exchange and emergency contact only---I will not sned you any chain letters!!!) get it to me and I will include it!

Terry---I don't have DH's kids to compare to....they are mine too...but our issue is nieces and nephews, his brothers kids, and his sisters kids, always doing so much better than ours.....BS!!!! It is terrible!

Brother is here, will have to finish posting later!!!

Hi all

went to Breakfast with mom and ds, what a nice am. I got 2 eggs, 2 sausage links, potatoes and toast. Man I can usually at least eat my eggs and sausage. NOPE , had a few bites of eggs, 1 sausage, a fork ful of potatoes. Man, Not that I am complaining, but something is going on. Got my antibiotics today yipee.

after Breakfast, we went to Walmart, mom got me some tops. 6 months ago I was wearing x-large, today... get this... I got MED shirts. I love them. I got 2 pr of work out pants they were a size xl (16) but, the belly fit and the butt and legs are big, the lg ift but I would not feel comfortable wearing a short/tucked in shirt with the L. They also had out their winter coats. my last one was a 2X ... Yes, the size 16 fit, and after my fill in 2 weeks I know It would be too big so I'm holding off. How exciting to shop in the regular dept and not in the plus/women's.

I was talking to mom, I should get my health ins stuff soon and going to look into tt, bt I am willing to give up my deck on the back of my house to have surgery in the spring. I AM DOING IT. I am going to get info now and give that to myself for my bday present in Feb/March. I will do it at 180 I think. After fill #2 I anticipate being in onderland. I lost 20lbs after my last fill and have consistantly kept it off, so that is what I need to lose after my 2nd fill. I need to talk to a ps to discuss skin removal, tt, what is the difference, what are my options, expenses....

Well, what great decisions - now something else to work towards.

Good evening, Violets..

Well, it finally happened. I am no longer a PB virgin. We had a nice supper this evening. Crock pot cooked pork roast from Schwans, mashed potatoes and gravy and mixed veggies of zuchini, peppers, onions and garlic. Everything went down fine until the last few mouthfuls and I should have quit while I was ahead. I knew after my last bite that I was in trouble. I've slimed before, but this was different.. it hurt like HELL... 'scuse the language. I thought I'd take a sip of Crystal Light to help it down... wrong!!! I leaned over the waste basket and up it came. I don't ever want that sensation again!! I can't wait until an hour is up so I can have some Crystal Light.

We're off to our local Brewing Company tonight.. they are having a Native American Flute group as entertainment.

Everyone have a good evening and DON'T do as Judy did tonight!!! Yikes!!!

Judy! Ugh..... sorry you had to finally become devirginized (in the PB sense)

Laura: Sorry you have more pain but oh so glad that you have some restriction and hey... just think of it.. YOU single handedly have changed the way YOUR doc DOES his surgery! Your suffering may have helped all those that come after you! WOW

I would also love a get together..... It would be so fun! We might even get crazy and come home with WWJD& Violet tats! :)

Still at my sisters.............. her MIL is frying chicken..... lord help me!

Step away from the fried chicken Tracy!!!!!!!

Judy- 90% of my PB's are uneventful, a sudden stuck moment then it passes.

But I've had the horrendously painful ones, and drinking always seems like the answer.. and for me it always makes it worse!

Nothing like surgery to make you not hungry!!

I'm so excited about this restriction, please don't ever go away!!!!!

I had 2 tiny pinches off the top of my husband's pizza.. was less than a tablespoon of food total... And I felt that over-stuffed ookie feeling.

Amazing.

But still able to guzzle my Water, so could this really be my sweet spot? Hehehe! Drank my Protein tubes, took Vitamins and Calcium today. Who needs food?!

I just returned from Chicago - a convention. (WARNING - food PORN) Has anybody had Garrett popcorn from Chicago (established in 1949) - OMG - it was so good. Garrett Popcorn Shops - Product Details - CaramelCrisp® & CheeseCorn™ MIX

The one I tried was the Caramel Crisp & cheese Corn mix. I looked at the two flavors mixed together and thought yuk -- but it was suprisingly really good!

Janiebug - congrat's on the 100+ lbs lost! You are outstanding!

TracyinKS - Congrat's on the Wedding - wish you many many years of happiness! OMG you look wonderful and you both are so happy! Congrat's again.

Laura - I have to agree that is a bunch of crap-them making you pay for a second port due to the their product being defective!

They should provide the replacment port and pay for the surgery to replace! In my opinion. Big hugs go out to you. Wishing you big success. Keeping your sister in my prayers as well.

Smyly - Welcome and I am looking forward to reading your posts! You have been very successful in weight loss -- good luck with your next fill!

TerriDoodle - We missed you - welcome back!

Teachlady - fantastic pictures from your trip --welcome back.

MsJen - big hugs to you as well! Hope your husband gets well soon.

Pamela - we need the recipe!!! sound yummmy...

Kat - prayers out to you and your family.

okay - I am nowhere near being caught up -- just at 9-19 early morning postings - I will have to do more cathcing up tomorrow!

Good night all!

Hi all, kind of quiet day here

I am just getting in from work. got a real nasty burn tonight, I left the oven door open and was freaking out because I was missing part of an order, the guy was standing there looking at me and BAM! I ran into the door, step mom saw it as it was happening and as I turned around and some of my skin (very small amount) was smoking on the oven door, I kind of went into shock. I have a huge bruise/burn where I hit it too. what a mess and man does it hurt! I should be blonde!

anyway, have a great night all

Good Morning All you Violets!!

Well I should say afternoon as its 12.30 noon here and Im still in my dressing gown!! :omg:

Laura, with being of this site for a while, I had no idea you were having a revision, Im so pleased your ok, take plenty of pain meds, and rest. I bet you'll see the weight drop off you now. xxxx

Pam...Im saying that phrase too....restriction...where fore out there.....it left thee some weeks ago....

I'm going to try and stick to a diet, leave it for a few weeks then phone my consultant. I had it for a few weeks too, where does it go? I mean why does it stop, its a pain really, I was really hoping it would last so much longer. Ive got a big band though (10ml one) maybe it moves?

Terry pleased your ok, how is the non smoking going, my resolve went, Im thinking of doing it in the new year...it I'll give me 3 months to sort my diet out...plus I know Im going to need help not the cold turkey approach.

Tracyinks, you look so pretty in your pics...its lovely to see the difference, you look radiant!

Kat, teenagers.....Ive had them for years now!! LOL....I think I now know how to handle them....'staying chilled'.

Take care,

lots of love

Sara xxxxxxx

Good Morning, Violets.

Sara.. it's so good to see you posting again. We've missed you!!! Now, where the heck is Lunasa???

I'm all dressed and ready for church. Just having a little breakfast before I hit the road. Today was weigh in day, but no change. Better than gaining, but I am definitely ready for a fill so those numbers can start going down again.

Jennifur... YIKES on the burn.. you take good care of it so there's no infection. Sounds awful!!

Laura.. I've had tons of episodes of things getting stuck.. but this was the very first time that things decided to come back up instead of working their way down. Not a pleasant feeling at all!! Hope you're feeling better today.

I'm off to get things ready for the choir before church. Everyone have a great day!! Patience, Trust and WWJD??!!

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
