I'm going to ask for a fill on Tuesday...I'm just worried - I'm at 2.8 in my band...what happens when I get close to 4 and possibly need more fills??? Has anyone seen this happen to anyone? I've seen it once on a board and they said that the doc said no more fills....
I got filled to 2.8 yesterday and I kinda made a face at the nurse when she said that. She said, "Oh, you've got PLENTY of room. We just keep filling you up and then when we hit 4 we ask Dr. Spivak for his opinion on doing more." So I guess it's still a possibility...but by the time you get that high, you probably won't need more.

BTW, I am doing ok. I ate 1/4c then started sliming. So....I guess 1/4c of food is my max for now! Which is good! I'm not hungry. C'mon scale!!!

I've been doing good, keeping up with my myplate.com thing, to track food intake.

Even on my 'binge' days when I'm craving all kinds of CRAP, my highest calories is 1800-2300. Since my metabolic test from my first surgeon said 3400 calories to maintain my weight, I don't beat myself up over it.

Yesterday though, we were on our way to a steak house, we passed Steak & shake and DH wanted to go there.. said he hasn't had it since it opened in our town (which is good IMHO), so we went. BOO!!

OMG.. I was putting it in myplate today, I had 2800 calories yesterday.. ALL BECAUSE OF STEAK & SHAKE. I told him, the food wasn't even good enough to justify that kind of calories (They made up for about 2,000 calories I had yesterday).. ridiculous.. absolutely ridiculous.

So yea, no more S&S ever again for me.

Now you see the real value in tracking calories! Those damn restaurants are killing us with the calories!! It's an eye-opening journey, eh girls?

:) [RANT ON] And remember....your calorie requirements go down as your weight goes down...so it has to be recalculated often. Besides, if that calorie deficit thing was for real, I'd be losing 1/2# a day. People like me that just have a ridiculously slow metabolism can just throw the book away on that "rule"! Supposedly I can "maintain" on 2500 cals a day...but I'm "maintaining" on 1500 calories a day (NOT including exercise). So, essentially, that means to lose 2# a week I'd have to eat no more than about 500-600 cals a day. NOT! [RANT OFF] :(

Oh, Tracy.... I also meant to say (but I was too busy ranting) that I agree with Michelle. Small ceremony now, family there, and big party in March. No secrets. :)

well survived another day of liquid diet.... waiting for electrician... i hate wating for people.

man, my living rooms are not very big, i have a huge wrap around fireplace that divides the space and a big coffee table. Well, my mom got one of those giant size exercise balls, guess who loves it most. my insane ds (3) and watching him run and jump on it on his belly right towards the corner of the fireplace is making me slightly crazy... can you just imagine?

I need a mental break

Terri- this wasn't one of those calorie calculator things (which some have said I can have as much as 4k calories to 'maintain' hah), but an actual metabolism test I did at the doctors office.. had to fast and then breathe into a tube for 30 minutes.. which was oddly harder than you'd think..felt like I was suffocating.. Anyway, at 333lbs, that thing said I could eat 3,400 or 3,500 calories to maintain. I know it's down now, but if I stay under 2,500 I am generally happy..like I said, those are my 'bad' days. My normal days are 1200-1600.

But yes, with places like steak & shake...and they aren't alone, it's no wonder at all that america is so overweight. I was looking at a kids happy meal at one of the restaurants, might be McDonalds, and the burger alone was 400calories.. I know kids don't need all that many calories!

Saw an article in the paper, said Alabama is number 4 in the top obese states.

LOL that is funny... I use to listen to that back in the day, I was a freshman in highschool when he was over here...

very true Laura, it is crazy, a happy meal is what the size of a regular meal was 30 years ago.

Oh, that's cool! What doctor did that? An obesity specialist or what? I'd be real curious to see what mine is.

When I started tracking my calories and still eating some of my faves (before banding, I guess) I found out that my 2 favorite salads that I habitually ate each had 900 calories!!! :faint: So, no, Steak and shake is definitely not alone! It's crazy.

...and I think Texas beats Alabama. I know Houston is in the top 5 or 10 cities. Ugh. Gotta love that southern cooking! (and I DO!)

Well Tracy, I tend to agree with Michelle. I say go for getting married now, I fully understand the insurance thing, years ago, that is what moved Rick and I on to the married side rather than the living in sin side!!! But I wouldn't hide it from anyone, and plan one heckuva blow out party reception celebration. Because just has been pointed out, if parents don't get told, they might be hurt, or siblings....secrets seldom turn out well!!! It does sound kind of romantic, but you also would have to watch your tongue and not refer to him as your husband, if no one knew, and just ask Laura, that is such a thrill the first time...calling him your husband, or referring to yourself as Mrs. You are such a caring, giving person, I hate seeing you short change yourself in any way. Think it through, find what makes you comfortable and DO IT!

Headache is still pounding away. Kinsey has chose today to play with her noisy, annoying, fishing game. My neighbor is replacing single pane windows and is banging and banging....Kinsey wants to talk back today....something totally new! And a lesson well learned from the 6 year old, every sentence begins with Yeah, but.....so she has been in the corner twice today! Tracy I think I need me one of them crotchety old nuns to deal with her!!!

Pamela--those terrible things happen in all kinds of surgeries, and here in the US too. My neighbor daughter (same ones replacing windows) had a hysterectomy done in Seattle in 2001, and they knicked the bowel, by the time they figured out what the problem was and found the place to fix it, she was in terrible shape. She lived, she is alive today, but she is in a home, has been ever since, she has never regained the ability to speak or move voluntarily--she is curled into a fetal position almost. Her husband has moved on, he had to divorce her...but he has remarried, and the woman he married, continues to bring the grandkids out to see my neighbors, and they go to visit the invalid former wife when they are here...she knows no one, or if she does, she shows no change at all. It is the saddest thing. She was always tall, thin, very vivacious, she was LOUD!!! I think that is always what I will think of when I think of Jessi, she was always loud! They moved to Seattle with her DH's work about 7 months before her surgery. Last time I saw her she was literally hanging out the window of her Explorer, waving wildly as they drove off when they moved away. She had 3 kids 2,4,& 7 when she had the surgery.

And a friend from childhood left here and went to San Antonio to college, and she got sick so she went to the Dr. on campus, he told her she had the flu, so she went home and went to bed. Her suite mates, were leaving for the weekend, and Roxanne was supposed to as well, but they come home Sunday night and found her in bed swollen up like she was 9 months pregnant---her appendix had burst! She was in the hospital for almost a year, getting the gangrene that had set in from the infection caused by the burst appendix cleared up. It had literally melted all of her female organs to her spine. They removed them all, and left her lying there wide open for months! Then during the original surgery to close her up, the bowel was either punctured, or had been weakened in a spot, and began leaking, leavng her in the hospital for yet another 2 months! She is lucky, she has fully recovered--she has went on to have 2 babies IVF. They told her that her uterus would not support a stretching pregnancy, but she tried, and it has worked twice!

Having any surgery is a scary ordeal. If one is comfortable going out of the country to do it, that is fine, heck I did it myself, but if they fear it, I doubt there is much one can say to convince them otherwise.

At the time I had mine done, I saved considerably more than 4K, but given what I was ok spending, and the experience of the Dr.'s in question....as well as the willingness to work with me, and talk with me, before scheduling surgery, is what made my decision. I knew a couple who had used this Dr, before me, and was very relaxed in my decision after finding out that the Dr, I considered here when I was hoping insurance would cover me, was trained by the group who did my surgery. It relaxed me enough to feel good about my decision. I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Happy Meals have grown I think---Kinsey and I share one. We also share meals at Taco Bell. A 2 year old eating 2 tacos???? It is much easier to go out to eat with her, they let me order off of any childrens menu, then she and I just share!!!

Ok Jenn, I see how the door happen now, I was just seeing someone run into a normal door and it slamming to the floor off of the hinges!!!

Sara, good luck to you on the quitting the smokes too, I am sooo proud of you and Terry!!! I know it isn't easy, I did it many years ago, and one of the biggest reasons I never started again, was so that I would never have to quit again! Keep up the good work!

Well I am off to go "fish" with Kinsey!

Kat

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
