Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

holy crap... I now have pork steak stuck! went down fine last night..

WEIRD.. must walk around now before My 1:00 p.m oreintaion comes knocking at my door.............. burp..... owwwwwwwwie that hurt, but it went down.

oh... and my mom is heavy and she is "watching" my progress..... I think she is feeling guilty and maybe a bit jealous of me getting the band.....

She has always made little remarks about my weight..... for those on the intimacy thread... she made the remark that maybe I had gained all my weight back could be the reason........ other times when I was dating she would say things like.. (are you too fat for him?) Even when I was at my lowest wearing size 10's (stretch) she said.... "Well, your not a skinny minny but your getting there" I have no idea why she does this to me............ but I sent the email on to my sister and this is what she said ... FUNNY

Mom is going through a weird stage right now. She told Kaycee one day that she WAS NOT SKINNY and she told me I had droopy boobs.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o:p></o:p>

So its not just you, it seems to be all of us. I think she is getting more and more like grandma Ruth the older she gets

Couple other things.. Here's a recipe that I am in love with.. it's normally made with normal sugar (mom makes it for cookouts lately) but this past weekend I asked her to try splenda, and it tasted 100% the same.. and soo much better than with sugar.

It's red grapes, cream cheese (normal, but next weekend I asked her to try the light or low-fat), chopped walnuts, white sugar (splenda), and brown sugar (splenda version of this is only 5c lower, so we use normal).

It's like eating icing with grapes in it. I LOVE IT. It's so rich too, so I can only eat about 1/2 cup at best. If you like grapes, and the cream cheese icing--you'd love it. I hate nuts, but in this salad I love the walnuts.

Today's menu for me.. frappucino for b'fast 180c and 8g Protein.< /p>

lunch was an arby's roast beef sandwhich with only 1/2 the bun.. but I got a little bit stuck and have been spitting up in my work trash can, so only ended up eating 3 bites. Now I'm working on my 1 potato cake (gave the other to DH <-- DH!!!). His brother is in town for the week, so I've been cooking at night for all 3 of us.. tonight will be salsbury steak with green Beans and asparagus..been trying to make more veggies without the carb things lately.. typically I make meat, 1 veggie, 1 rice or potato. The guys don't like it very much, but I give them extra helpings of the meat to make up for it and they survive! I have been doing pretty good really, like I said not eating much on the vacation and now I'm eating smaller portions since my last fill. YAY! So it is working SOME. Not a LOT though, I get hungry still throughout the day, but I can't eat as much as last fill.

Terry - thank for posting your stuff... you too Laura. I think having a variety is good.

I am so full still, I feel like I ate a thanksgiving dinner, normally i would only have 1 egg for Breakfast and 2-4 oz chicken if 2 i would have salad with it and same for dinner. Well - I guess I should get up and go to work. Man - i just don't feel great today!

Tracy! I'm so proud of you!! My favorite way to eat broccoli is just with butter, lemon and salt. Must have lemon. You are just being a model Violet!

Has anyone ever had that broccoli/raisin salad? ? Oh my that's so yummy. I've always wanted to make that. Here's the recipe:

<TABLE cellSpacing=0 cellPadding=0 width="99%" border=0><TBODY><TR><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #dddd9d 2px solid; PADDING-RIGHT: 10px; BORDER-TOP: #eeeece 1px solid; PADDING-LEFT: 10px; FONT-SIZE: 18px; BORDER-LEFT: #eeeece 1px solid; COLOR: #8caa9e" noWrap align=left bgColor=#ffffcc>BROCCOLI - BACON - RAISIN SALAD</TD><TD style="BORDER-BOTTOM: #eeeece 1px solid"> </TD></TR><TR><TD style="BORDER-RIGHT: #dddd9d 2px solid; PADDING-RIGHT: 20px; PADDING-LEFT: 20px; PADDING-BOTTOM: 20px; BORDER-LEFT: #eeeece 1px solid; PADDING-TOP: 20px; BORDER-BOTTOM: #dddd9d 2px solid" bgColor=#ffffcc colSpan=2><!----><!--BROCCOLI - BACON - RAISIN SALAD-->

1 bunch fresh broccoli, washed, drained, broken into flowerettes

1/2 c. chopped onion

1 lb. bacon fried crisp, drained, and crumbled

1/2 c. hulled sunflower seeds

1/2 c. raisins

DRESSING:

3/4 c. mayonnaise

1/4 c. sugar

2 tbsp. vinegar

Combine salad ingredients together in large bowl; set aside. Combine dressing ingredients together thoroughly. Pour dressing over salad ingredients; stir to blend. Serve chilled.

</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>

Of course, good little Violets would reduce the calories and fat by reducing the amt. of bacon, using light mayo and Splenda....but I'm tellin' ya, this is good!

Terry.. that is my all time favorite salad recipe. haven't had it since being banded though.

My food intake today was:

BREAKFAST

1/2 cup lo fat cottage cheese with 1/4 cup blueberries and splenda brown sugar = 178 calories 12 grams of Protein

LUNCH 6 tsp. ham salad spread (I was late for a rehearsal) = 32 calories 1 gram protein

MID AFTERNOON snack sugar free pudding with sugar free whipped cream= 80 calories

SUPPER: 1 turkey mignon= 220 calories 35 grams protein

1/2 cup summer squash cooked with onions, garlic and red pepper 30 calories 1 gram protein

EVENING SNACK: sugar free pudding with sugar free whipped cream=80 calories

That equals 620 calories which is low for me today. I'm usually getting 700 - 800 a day. I was in a rush at lunch and didn't get my full helping of ham salad and lettuce and fruit. Bummer.

DH and I are going walking tonight after my rehearsal. I had a 2 hour flute rehearsal this afternoon for my dulcimer/flute group and tonight I have a 2 hour singing rehearsal for our acappella singing group. I'm going to be music-ed out today!

Good evening Violets!

I had 1 small burger no bun with ranch

1/2 cup of brocoli and a bit of ragu double cheddar cheese

I'm patiently waiting another half hour before I get a glass of tea

We make that broccoli salad but instead of raisins we put dried cranberries and we also add grated cheddar cheese. Mixed all in. It's so good. Like Judy I have not had it since I've been banded.

I am in menu heaven here AND... as an extra added bonus... recipes thrown in for good measure! You all spoil me! Life is GOOD!

:D

Terry... I love that recipe & forgot all about it 'til you posted! I put in cheddar chz, too. When I make it next (which may be tomorrow now, lol!) I'll use either turkey bacon or low-sodium bacon & 2% ched & lite mayo & splenda.

Laura... do you have to whip up the cream cheese to soften it up enough to mix in the nuts & grapes?

And I still want to make Tracy's pork steak alfredo thingy, too... oh my... too many recipes, not enough time!

Here, I'll share! This weekend I made that 7-layer salad w/the lite mayo & splenda & vinegar mixture that you spread on the top... not bad... but I think I forgot a layer... ha ha ha!

I'm all giddy from the menus... I'm being silly... so off to do more editing!

Tomorrow is FINALLY my 2nd aqua pilates class... for those of you w/long memories, the 1st one was 3 WEEKS AGO! It's every Weds from now 'til the end of Aug, thank goodness... I can remember only a few of the moves & I do look a bit odd at the regular pool doing them over & over during adult swim!

G'nite... sleep tight!

well, it died down so I'm home early, stinks for money but I just didn't feel well today.

I ate my dinner and drank lots, lets just see if increasing my calories did any good.. I definately had a variety today if nothing else.

Now it is time to relax, i'm getting up and hiting the gym in the am

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
