Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Good morning everyone

I think the site is working properly again. How nice. I hope everyone has a great day. I will be here doing more homework than anyone person should have to do. Today is the final day! At least to get everything handed in.

As for the rapid weight loss. OK yes, I am the most impatient person in the world, but there is a reason we choose the band vs. bypass right! We didn't want the body altering, drastic weight loss. I guess personally didn't quite know what to expect and didn't think there would be a stop in the loss but that is ok, body is adjusting. I am not suppose to go back to my dr or to my nutritionist until June 28th, that is too long for me. I think I am going to make an appt with my nutritionist as soon as possible to discuss what I should be eating at this point instead of the fact that I might have sleep apena (sp), that is what I have a pc for.

Pam & areellady, thanks for you encouraging words yesterday! "mdrai....put this picture of yourself in your mind.....YOU IN A STRING BIKINI..ON THE BEACH....YOU CAN DO IT..." -- roflmao! ;) -- this cracks me up!!!!! I hope laughter burns calories cuz' I am definitely laughing my butt off over here (hey, if getting up to pee counts, then laughter should, too!)

I'm just trying to take it one "meal" at a time... day 3 /12 to go... wowza!

Good luck w/all the assignments, Jennifur!

Another busy day here... I have my anesthesia consultation this morning (1 hr away). I'm starting to yearn for summer vacation like the kids are!... much less running around then, + hazy lazy afternoons at the pool... rough life, I know!

Have a great Wednesday, everyone! "Glug, glug, glug!" Drink that h20!<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Well, I am officially not losing weight either ;) and my restriction is all gone and I am getting hungry. I am having to constantly remind myself that I WILL one day get to where I want to be, but this is a PROCESS that takes time. Sure, there are people who post that they're losing steadily, but the truth is that 90% of people lose in "spurts". PATIENCE, DEAR ONES. PATIENCE.

Update, Violets...

Full disclosure: I just changed my ticker from a goal weight of 175 to 199 BECAUSE 199 is really & truly my #1 goal... I honestly can't remember ever being in the 100s... so that is my heart's desire. When I achieve that goal (notice I said "when", not "if"!), then I will re-evaluate where I want to go from there... which I think will depend on a lot of things, such as what size clothing I'm wearing, how I feel, how I look... then those additional pounds will be, well, I don't want to say "gravy" or "the icing on the cake" or "the cherry on top" (why do we have all this fattening food imagery in our language, hmmmm?)... so, ummm, then those additional pounds will be "the splenda in my coffee," "the Protein in my shake," "the wiggle in my sugar-free jell-o"... you get the point! ;)

That is all. Please continue with your regularly scheduled programs.

I too am feeling fat and stalled. The scale says the same, I actually think I put on a few. Then yesterday, I wore a pair of pants, that like last week, have not seen the light of day since last year. They were tighter than the ones last week (but exact same style, just different color). Because they were tighter, I felt very fat. When I got home, after a long 12 hour fat day, I took 'em off, and found out they are a size 22!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought they were a tight 24, but no. I started this in 28/30's, so a 22 is amazing. I know I am not doing as well as I should w/ my diet now...eating normal, just smaller amounts...but something is happening. I have not had time to work out either. So, I second Terry, it takes patience. I like what Mini said, this is a 2 year process, anything before is just extra!

My day today is going to be long again. I am taking 200 7th graders to Medieval Times in Buena Park. I am looking forward to it, it was my idea because I've always wanted to go. But being on the bus for 4+ hours (2 each way) w/ kids...AAAHH! What were we saying about patience??? Then I have study group tonight, until about 9pm...see why I can't find time to exercise, it is 5 am or nothing. :faint:

Anyway Violets, have a great day! I will miss you (I usually check in at work).

This is for the violet who posted that her fill hurt (sorry, i forgot your name) why did it hurt? I mean, was it the shot? The actual saline? Your tummy, muscles? If you see this please "fill" us in, there are many who are still waiting for this!

Good luck Jennifer!!! We are behind you!

Hey Pam... My son is a 7th grader, so I give you ALLLLLLLLLLL the credit and appreciation in the world that you work with them every day. The 1 can drive me bonkers sometimes... puberty has jumped up and just b*slapped him all over the place this year... the height, the voice, the hair ;) , the attitude... yikes! Of course, he is a doll baby 1/2 the time, too... but it's oftentimes hard to tell which kid will answer when speaking w/him. And then there are his buddies who still look like 5th graders -- what a wacky time of life! So 200 of them all together -- wowza!

And think of all the walking you'll do today... that's exercise!

And yay on the pants!!!

Mdrai- When I get cravings, I brush my teeth.. a trick a long time best friend and fellow dieter taught me. I asked her why that helps (it takes the edge off) and she said it's because you don't want to eat after brushing your teeth. Wouldn't hurt for you to try :(

Kity- oooo that will be fun, well-minus kids..I LOVE medieval times, I haven't been in years.

About restricition and food, yes.. I feel like I am pre-band. Glad it's not just me. I keep getting paranoid that it's slipper or something wrong is happening because I don't feel tight, I don't get stuck eating anything, and I can eat just about whatever I want. I still eat smaller portions, but I don't know how much of that is programming, because I pick at my food and eat little bites and kind of doddle (sp) around when I eat.. but I don't get that 'full' feeling I got in the beginning, that was so neat.. pre-band I never got 'full' unless it was Thanksgiving and I ate 5 people's worth of food!! After surgery, half of a Jello cup gave me the stuffed/full feeling. That was a new sensation in my life really.. and now it's gone ;)

I just hope I get it back after the fill (pleeeeease). I weighed myself this morning.. I am PMSing like crazy, I guess since I had to go off of my BC pills, and started taking them again a week or two ago they haven't regulated me yet.. periods suck right now... but back to my weight, haven't lost anything in a week, but haven't gained, so that's good. I want to try working out at the gym at work, the back pains aren't as bad as they use to be(yay) but do still exist.

It likely won't be today, I'm cramping and bloaty and just want to go back to bed right now.. off to work for me!

Good morning, Shrink'n Violets!!!

It's good to see everyone posting this morning. Hope everyone had a good night. When I say to follow the bandster rules, I simply mean..

1. Follow YOUR doctor's instructions

2. Follow YOUR nutritionist's instructions

3. Drink 8 glasses of Water a day

4. Exercise 30 minutes a day

That's our goal each and every day. BUT.. none of us are perfect and this is a journey full of bumps and bruises. Just remember that little tool inside of us will always be there ready and willing to help us get to that goal we have each set for ourselves.

For me, at my age, it's an exciting adventure and I feel a sense of accomplishment at the end of each day that I have made it one more day towards my goal.

So I will continue to say... have a great day and follow the bandster rules!!!;)

Violets -

I was in the dumps thinking I wasn't losing as fast as everyone else, but then I remembered this is a two year process. I have just completed 4 weeks (post surgery). I have another 100 weeks to lose weight. I have been losing an average of 1 - 2 pounds, but I am so impatient.

I don't think there is a right way to do this. We all have to find a diet that works and that gives us good nutrition. I keep saying to myself, I deserve a healthy life and that I can do this.

We all can do this! It probably isn't productive to compare myself to others, but to cheer you all on is a pleasure.

This is sooo true, thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Jane

hey everyone - sorry I don't get to post as much as everyone else. But I'm still with all of you in bandland spirit.

I'm on my 4th week of post op and supposed to be on puree' foods. Well i kind of venture a little further than puree's probably once a day. I find the worst things to get down are meats.

Anyway, i thought I'd share this new "tool" that I found at a garage sale (also available at amazon.com). It's called The 90 Day Fitness Journal. It's a kool journal that I started on Monday to record my daily intakes and exercise goals. It's really helped me to get on track to write things down. Anyway, thought I'd share.

Have a great one!

Haydee - you'll be fine.

Just make some right decisions. Remember, the band is there as a tool - not the answer. You can do it! Fill or not.

Tammy

I got that journal given to me by my dr in the hospital. It is good to log stuff.

After reading that everyone else can eat anything and everything, I guess I'm glad that I am not quite at that point yet. I find i'm eating more but still very small amounts

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
