Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

Ok, I know I've become a darn hypochondriac since being banded, but I'm extremely paranoid right now. Pain still there, but I've learned to manipulate it around so I can get it to stop hurting long enough to fall asleep..

So I told you guys how I can't guzzle Water, every sip is hard, etc.

Well I have NO restriction anymore! I have been testing it, I can guzzle water..and guzzle and guzzle. Instead of being happy, I'm scared the band slipped or something?? Waaaaah! This is normal though right? My swelling probably just went down?

Hey Laura,

Wow, I wish I could do that manipulation thing. My pain just says put and I can only fall asleep on my back and my back is getting quite sore!

At first I was also worried about being able to drink too much. I have been able to drink fairly freely from about day 3 but eventually I decided it was probably normal. I'm really glad that you can get Water down now, I'm sure that can only be a good thing. :girl_hug:

Good Luck!

Ellen

The only pain I have is this knot in my side, I'm betting it's gas pain at this point. But it's EXCRUCIATING. It's like a knife is being twisted inside of me when I take a deep breath or lay down, or bend over.

But, I figured out how to.. take a deep breath so the pain is there, then push on my stomach where I feel the pain, and it pushes it somewhere temporarily (about 30 minutes, sometimes less)- where I don't feel it. Otherwise I can't sleep!

Ok going to stop being paranoid, it has to be the swelling just went down.

Thanks and welcome back :girl_hug:

Awesome trick. :girl_hug:

I bet it's the swelling. Don't stress too much, I hear that stress and tention can actually make things feel tighter. Someone said that they can only eat and drink if they are feeling calm, otherwise it's very difficult for them. It is amazing how everyone's experience is so different but this seems like such a great place to get support and I'm sure someone with more knowledge than me can give you some more advice. :)

Jennifur - I bet between the mice and the dumb-ass boyfriend you have hardly had time to breathe. I always think things happen for a reason, when you've lived as long as I have it seems to be true. So go with the flow - good stuff is coming your way, I know it!

Michelle

Thanks - I hope so, I try so hard to see it, but it is just hard after 17 years and he is just mia since surgery.

Today is another day, still emotionally drained, didn't get much sleep last night but I'm up and going to try to do it again.

Laura - same thing here, yesterday I woke up feeling hungry and I can actually drink water and it doesn't hurt. I wanted some Soup in the worst way yesterday. Really, I do want it but I know that my milk shakes I've been making that now only take 20-25mins to drink still fill me up so I can make it until Friday.

I don't understand why let your body go into starvation mode - now that the swelling is gone I am actually getting light headed, so it is beyone wanting food, and since I got hungry I stopped loosing too. Which is ok, because I hear that when you add in food you start loosing again.

I actually slept on my stomach last night and didn't wake up every time I moved.

Off to get ready for school and another day.

Ok not as impressive, but - I decided to change my ticker this am to go from my weight on Monday am before surgery so I know what the band is doing for me instead of trying to figure it out when I update it. End result I need to lose a total of 103lbs and want to lose 128lbs - so as long as i'm there that is all that matters, right?

surprised I was 3lbs down this am from yesterday - off to make my shake and head out for the day.

Good luck to everyone today!

Hello all.......... I have to admit something.... I went off plan over the weekend... my last hurrah I guess. We were camping and yes I had the smores, the burger with bun...... the crap the kids were eating... but I DID go on a hike I think about 2 miles..... I am back on track today.. my last 3 days and even more so.. my first day without COFFEE........ I have a headache, I'm on my second 30 oz glass of Water, Had one Protein Shake and 1 sf jello........ and my stomach is screaming FEEEEEEEEED ME! LOL

I am telling my self that I am damn sure not going to do damage to my liver by not complying so... that is why I'm chugging water......

Today is also, CLEAN MY DESK day!!!!!! I am trying to catch up on filing and little back burner stuff that I put off. I know I'm only going to be missing two days of work, but I would be mortified if my work nemisis had to come in here next week and do payroll.... (and go through my desk) I have only told ONE person at work, and she asked me this morning if I was getting nervous....

I LOVED ALL THE PICS!!!!!!!!! I'm trying to keep my head in the game today. DBF got all pouty this am when I didn't make coffee... (I know I could of done it, but I was being a little pouty myself because I can't drink it.).................. but I'm ENTITLED! :girl_hug:

HI Tracy,

Well after reading this post I have to confess that I had some Cheezit's yesterday and 5 wheat thins - I felt so weak that I did that!!! So my plan was to chug water and crystal light today and really be dedicated for the last 3 days pre-op!!! I was feeling sorry for myself!!

I also plan on going back to work after 4 days, my surgery is Friday and I'm back on Wednesday. Only a couple people know at work; I'm telling people I'm goign on a short vacation too. There is only one person I don't want to tell because she'll just say I'm crazy and to keep dieting and excercising, she's never had a weight problem. Well she could loose about 30 lbs but that's nothing compared to what I need to loose.

Well, everyone have a great day! Jen

:sick :sick Hi all...

You should see the state of me typing here! I cannot sit down bc of these horrible gas pains in my side so I have been standing at my computer all day with the keyboard on a high stool so I can type!! LOL

LAURAJ....you are not alone with the pain in your side... don't panic it is gas...I'm on day 4 of it now & I'm lucky I am alone in my office otherwise I would have to be out sick... I just can't bear sitting down. I find painkillers help. I can also 'push' into my pain area but I'm not as it's too sensitive. If I hadn't known to expect this I would be in th ER demanding that I was suffering a heart attack...so yes.. it can be that severe!!

However...I am getting done what I have to do & with a smile on my face... I just keep imagining how good I'll feel when the pain is gone!

As for appetite & being able to drink more I am at that point too. I can take in 200-300mls at a time but going as far as 300 is a bit much...if I do that it's usually because I FORGET to slow down & I'm sorry by the time I've taken in 300... the fullness is not happening as fast as my intake is but I just have to learn to sync the 2.

I probably am not getting in enough Protein either... I am useles at tracking & recording...mostly because I am scatterbrained at the best of times! I'd say mushie stage will be difficult..I anticipate I will feel initial guilt that I'll feel I'm overeating as I come off such a small intake.. I'll have to prepare for that.

Chica Chuls...dynamo & Kity...Thank you for your kind words...

TRACYinKS !!!!! YOU'RE ALMOST THERE!!!! WELL DONE....

PLEASE BE GOOD TO YOURSELF POST OP IN CASE YOU NEED MORE TIME...MAKE YOUR PLAN B TO TAKE IT.

Although with all the good will you'll have coming your way, you'll probably be up & about after surgery helping the nurses with their rounds!!

We'll all be thinking of you..

Feck this standing up working thing...everything's taking me ages!!

I'm going for a walk....feck the paperwork!!!:girl_hug:

Hey Everyone-

This morning my principal walked past me and said, "Who are you...?" That felt so good. He has been at meetings and I haven't seen him in few days. He had bypass surgery, so he knows what it feels like to lose 20 pounds. Just thought I'd share.

Another crazy thing happened. Yesterday I was wearing a pair of peg pants (capris) and a month ago, they were, um, very snug (who am I kidding, they were tight as hell). Well, I ran to the potty, and undid the belt (which, is on it's last whole!!!) and when I finished, I stood up and noticed that I had been able to pull off the pants, WITHOUT UNDOING THE BUTTON AND ZIPPER!!!! I just cant believe it. The scale says the same now...but I can feel the inches and clothes don't lie. :girl_hug: :clap2: . I've never lost weight before...just kept putting it on. This feels amazing.

Today, the Parent/Teacher Group (PTG) put out a wonderful spread for the teachers. All the yummy goodies that lead me to 280. Well, I stopped, and grabbed 4 grapes, and walked away!!! Good for me!

Lastly, (sorry to toot my own horn, but these are great events that I want to share), I was starving yesterday. I mean sooooo hungry, and I didn't pack enough food for my 12 hour day. I pulled into Jack in the Box, was thinking I could get a chix breast from a sandwich. Then I quickly backed out...I DONT WANT TO EAT THAT CRAP ANY MORE. I was very proud of myself! I loved fast food, and ate it way too much. I ran to the store and got some chix salad from the deli. It was so fresh, good, and better for me, (even w/ the mayo) this was a victory. I don't ever want to eat fast food again, period.

I hope everyone is doing well. Pain, gas, hunger...it is allllllllll worth it.

Tracy- I was thinking about you this morning. I remember 2 days before (just a few weeks ago) and how nervous I was. You are very well informed (thanks LBT) and have so many supporters. I am actually looking forward to reading your post op post! Deep Breaths...Deep Breaths.

Good luck w/ the job search Jennifer!!!

DynamoMini,

I feel better on mushies as well. I am back to work today and feeling GREAT! :clap2: Last night I also had refried Beans, and for lunch about 1/4 c. of a smoothie. I am just eating little bits of things.:hungry: Throughout the day yesterday I also had a few bites of yogurt and Soup as well. Today I had a some coffee, not very much and now I am sipping on some crystal light. I brought soup and yogurt to work for lunch and snack, or when ever I feel hungry. How are you feeling? Are you up and about? When is your post-op? I am catching up on all the posts as I have not been logged on for a couple days. :girl_hug:

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
