Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Hi you all, sorry if I am being a pain, but I forgot to ask how to get a ticker on here!

Hi Margi again! Let me walk you thru the ticker thing.

1. click on someone's ticker - it will take you to the website to create yours.

2. click the box that says: "Create your own ticker"

3. click the "WEIGHT LOSS" or "EVENT" (your choice if you want to track the weight loss or count down to the surgery -- or count from the date you had surgery.) I am going to assume you clicked "WEIGHT LOSS" for the following steps.

4. click the ticker bar you wish to have as yours (there are 13 pages of designs to choose from - to see another page just click the page #) once you have decided - click "NEXT"

5. click the ticker slider you wish to have as yours (there are 7 pages of designs to chose from) once you decided - click "NEXT"

6. complete this page with your options - password; tracking by change of weight or showing actual weight and lbs lost; your target and starting weight; current weight and weight date; your height - click "NEXT"

7. highlight the code in the first box - starts with "[url=http://www.TickerFactory.com/weight-loss/..." copy it (right mouse click - copy)

8. goto your "EDIT SIGNATURE" on your lapbandtalk and paste it (right mouse click - paste)

9. preview signature -- then add spaces and additional content as you wish.

Let me know if you need more help -- or if you have questions regarding these instructions.

Good Luck!

Thanks Terry

I ice packed my arm and amazing it feels so much better, I feel like the bloat is going down. It did feel like a very localized screwdriver going into my arm. I'll keep ice packing it and see how that goes.

The simple pleasures - it is kind of funny isn't it? I hate milk and love Water and I can't drink plain water to save my life but the milk I had today was the best ever. I am beginning to feel a little hungry so I'm going to assume in a sick way that is good and my swelling is going down.

Just an update on my pain. About 30m ago I had a series of muscle spasms in that 'spot' in my ribcage that is hurting. I didn't move, was letting the spasms go, hoping when it was done, the pain would miraculously be gone. Well, it just moved. But.. to me, thats a good sign that it's not because my band is broken or something horrible. So my ouch spot moved to the right a little. So maybe this is gas???

Haydee- Good idea, I'm going to get prune juice tomorrow!!

I was surprised, my doctor had me take magnesium citrate the day before surgery, and everyone told me how it's like an enima and I'll be living on the can. Well I took it, and I had 3 SMALL SMALL bowel movements and that was that. And now, since surgery, I have yet to produce anything real productive. I worried a little, but took into account I'm not eating food right now, so it's just liquids. But even liquids I thought should be coming out pretty well. I'll try prune juice and see what comes of it.

I'm just post crazy today, I've been on lap-band for hours.

Anyway, I decided on my 'reward system'. I thought about doing a charm Bracelet, but I get anxiety just thinking about it. Like magnets, shot-glasses and keychains. I collect these things. And when I started collecting, I worried about the fact I didn't get one from a trip before I started the collection. It's neurotic, I know.

So I decided, every 10lbs I am going to buy a new pair of shoes and a new purse (I love shoes & purses!). So.. since I'm down 14lbs.. I am shopping tomorrow :heh: :clap2:

Evening everyone,

Sara- Congrats on the exercise!!! I agree w/ Terri though, go slow. I have bone spurs in my feet, so I can't do extensive walking. I do 30 min on the stationary bike, which equals 5 miles (a little over 5 this week). My goal is just the 30 min...30 min...30 min....(I just keep telling myself that)! For me, it is great circulation, I can really feel the blood pumping. Before surgery I would do 10 min, then do 20 min of weight machines. (The elipticle (sp) thingy almost killed me). Anyway, what ever you are doing, listen to you body, and have fun w/ it. What i liked about what you said is the constant change up. That will prevent you from getting bored. And remember that once you quit for good, things will be easier as far as exercise.

For all our friends having pain this weekend, take care and take your pain meds. I was told by both the surgeon and my primary that it is important to take the pain meds, when needed, to help w/ healing. When the body is struggling w/ pain, the healing is slower. (Just thought I'd share that).

Enjoy your evening everyone...remember, May is almost here, and then we are all well on our way!!!

Congrats 396...speedy recovery!!!

I just read in another thread that Laura started about her pain, that she is headed to the ER. She fits the criteria for the pain being related to a blood clot in the lung.

I'll say a prayer for her, thought some of you might want to do the same.

We are thinking of you Laura, and hope you are home soon with good news!

Kat

Thank you Kat!!! It is good news! They don't know what it is!)

But, that means it's NOT a blood clot. I'm so thankful. It's probably just gas or a twisted muscle. But if anyone else has a pain like this, I'd still go get it checked out. After reading about the other girl's situation, and when I saw she was only 20, I realized it could be true! I googled the information on symptoms of lung blood clots, and everything it said about the chest pain was dead on for me. But luckily it's probably just a big gas ball! Time to sleep now

Hugs!!

Laura

I am so glad it is not a clot. Have you been taking gas x. Maybe the prune juice will work and that will solve your problems.

On a happy note for me, my gas pain is finally gone. 5 very long days and I feel like I can function today. Port pain is very mild but more defined as well and I actually felt like I wanted to eat something, which is bad since I still have 8 days of liquids, but I'm taking this all as another huge step to recovery.

I am going to go for a nice long walk today, slow and steady but going to walk for exercise instead of walking to get rid of the gas.

I hope everyone else is doing well today - I am so happy with my decision and so glad I have lbt to vent on things that the immediate people in my life don't quite understand

OK - here we go.

I start my pre-surgery diet of liquids today.

For this 'special' day I:

woke up and headed for the shower with my new tape measure my doctor's office gave me and a pen and paper.

I weighed myself and am SO amazed that the 2 pounds I've been down has stayed off in spite of all the things I've eaten (probably nerves).

So today I'm at 268 and 51% body fat

I took my body measurements and wrote them down.

I stuck that paper and my measure tape in my bathroom drawer and hopped in the shower.

Now I'm posting a bit here and heading downstairs to have some juice!

Today, LIFE IS GOOD.

Got to go - daughter is butting in on my lap claiming to hungry and if I put off everything too long, I'll have a bad hair day.

Sunny and high 70's today!

surgery is Tuesday.

Pre-surgery screening went well and I'm so good to go.

Be back Later!!!

LAURA- very very happy to hear you are alright! I am sure that ws very scarry to go through, even just thinking about a possible clot.

On a different note... can someone please tell me what the eliptical machine is for? I have seen the machine, but never in use. Does it simulate running or stairs??? I don't want to get on it and not know what to do!

Oh, Laura....you don't know how relieved I am to hear you are alright. Thank God. Get lots of rest today. ::hug:

The elliptical is designed to take the impact out of walking. I can't describe it...here, why don't you take a look at the wikipedia entry here. They explain it a heck of a lot better than I can. It's quite a workout though because it does provide varying levels of resistance than walking cannot. I like it the best of all the cardio machines (cycle, stairmaster, treadmill, etc.)

Laura,

Gosh how totally scarry!!! I am so glad your home. Rest well today and know that we are all here for you. ;)

Jen,

Glad to hear your feeling better! It is about 5 full days, and then whaalaa...you start feeling better. Just don't over do it...I live alone and had to lift dog food, garage doors, and lots of other stuff. Even though your feeling better, still continue to take care of yourself. :D

Have a great Sunday everyone!

PS- The lasagne was yummy!!! I just gave DP my Pasta, and at the sause and cheese! It felt great to have good food again, that didn't come out of the magic bullet!:D

Pamela

thanks, yes it is amazing, although I did wake up with full blown thrush this morning, which I kind of knew was coming - I got it when I had my c-section from the antibiotics they gave me. My Dr called in a script for me this am and hopefully I'll be worlds better by tomorrow. After 2 doses of the meds that nasty taste went away and I actually could stand to drink Water.< /p>

So I live alone with my 2 children - they are being great and i'm trying so hard not to over do it. Today is going to be 80 here so i'm going to do some homework outside, throw the pump on my pool cover and supervise my daughter in some finishing up yard work. I have a couple of big projects I want to do because it is nice outside but I know better and set special days to do them.

Good Luck to everyone this week.

TracyKS - this is your week isn't it?? man you have to be so excited, since you started this thread and finally... YOUR TURN!!!!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
