My DH has suggested that we have sex every time that I want to overeat....isn't that just like a man? lol

ROFL!!!!!!!! I just about lost my coffee via my nose on this one!!! Well I guess you would be good on your exercise too if you complied with his request!

I'm a Feb. 07 bandster, but I enjoy reading all of your excitement and questions, etc. About what to do instead of stress eat......I was a huge stress eater. When my doctor suggested finding a new hobby, I knew that wasn't the answer for me. I already have so many hobbies that I can't get into my craft room. So I did something different...I have replaced my eating with straightening out years of packrat stuff. I've cleaned out my craft room....I can actually sit in there and scrapbook now!!! I've cleaned out cabinets and drawers and such. I went to Barnes and Nobles and went to the home organization section and bought a really good guide. I've just tackled little jobs one by one. My kitchen pantry door now shuts!!!!!!

Hope this helps some of you!!!

Also, thanks for the charm Bracelet idea......I'm going to get my bracelet and 2 charms today!!

Misty, Chica Chula & Collector:

Well my dear sisters, this time tomorrow we will have started our journey to a healthier life and a new beginning!!!

I'm leaving in about an hour. The hospital is about 20 mins away and my surgery is not until 12:30 this afternoon. My insurance pays 100 percent only if I stay overnigh, so stay I will.

Take care.

Oh, I forgot!!

I'm not going to do the charms. My doctor suggested that his patients all wear a medical alert ID in case of an emergency and they have to tube us they won't puncture our pouch. So he gave us a card for Lauren's Hope www.laurenshope.com and they have wonder bracelets for your ID so that it will match your outfits. (I love to coordinate).

On the subject of STRESS -- One of the best things I ever did for myself in the past was to take (and study) yoga. Practicing yoga gave me many tools for de-stressing. The emphasis is placed on proper breathing...which may not sound like much but, believe me, it has the power to calm your nerves in a flash. It helps you learn how to be more aware of your body and how to 'check in' with it every so often. You learn how to detect what is out of whack and you learn how to fix it with just a few moments of breathing and focus. I highly suggest it for all of you with stressful lives. If you can step aside for just a minute or two, close your eyes and take inventory of what's going on in your body, take 5-6 proper deep breaths, clear your mind and get centered...you will be ready again in a short time to get back to the task at hand. I stopped going to classes when I got too fat to not embarrass myself...so I just switched to tapes instead. Any beginner yoga instruction is good, some may even be geared toward teaching relaxation and that would be even better. The practice of meditation is also really effective...and you will learn some of that in yoga.

Sara- Thanks for the props on my weight loss...I can't believe it, and can already feel it. Congrats to you too, 14 pounds is amazing!!! Do I see more charms in our future???

I have not worked out since Tues, but plan on doing it tomorrow am, then get a pedicure and eyebrows waxed. I feel bad that I took a few days off, but what I am learning in this journey is that we have to be forgiving and tough on ourselves. Forgiving when we falter (munch out or not exercise) and tough on ourselves so that we stay on track.

I am advanced to puree stage tomorrow (been on full liquids since home from hospital). I am very glad, can't wait to have 1/4 cup of refried beans!!!

Terri posted yesterday about increased hunger and I am sooooo there. At first I'd get hungry every 5-6 hours, now it is about 2 hours or less! I close my eyes when the commercials come on, I'd kill for a cheeseburger. My fill date is May 31...so it is gonna be a long month and a half. My doctor said 6 weeks.:think On the subject of stress and eating, I am writing my dissertation right now...I too know stress. Actually, I have been flaking out more than writing the last few weeks, which just makes me more stressed. On Sunday when DP left and for the first time in my life I could not eat to comfort myself I exercised. Then this week, I had the munchies, and since I am still on full liquids and don't have the option to eat, I got up and went into the extra room and cleaned out my dead mothers desk, a task I had put off for 2 years. I actually was shredding stuff from 1976...mom saved everything. It took me 3 hours, and I didn't think about eating at all...and now the desk task is done. I have so many of these little projects still to do, and it is relaxing and feels good to finally be doing some of these jobs that are always on my to do list.

Sorry for the long post...this thread goes so fast and it is hard to keep up, but I wanted to wish everyone good luck and speedy recovery getting banded today! We are all in there w/ you!

Have a great day!

PS-Terri, how was going back to work? I go back Monday and am a bit nervous.

Terry I think yoga is a good idea, Im going to have to find something that I can do secretly when Im in an office enviroment,

Pam, this report is like doing my masters again, its from a yr long project, Im going to try and finish it today, Im hoping theres only 4 more pages to write, its just writing accademically which flows, its all medical terminology, so its hard to write :cry and Ive put it off to the last minute!! Hey I can't find the charm Bracelet idea, could someone repost or show me where it is? (I looked back and don't see!) I need something special to do on this journey (well, besides lose weight).

------

Today I went out to our house being built. They were putting up the walls on April 11, when I was out of town for my pre-op, so I didn't get to go see.

I went this morning before work to take pictures, and they've already put up the walls, roof, insulation, etc. It's so exciting!!

The house looks big now. With just the foundation, I was getting nervous about how small it looked. I can't wait to move.. and hopefully have lost some weight by July that I can HELP move stuff. I carry enough weight right now.

I posted a wonderful jeweller for charms, although he has gotten kind of expensive, the quality is top-notch and each piece is had finished. I've been to the workshop in Kerrville. (Mr. Avery was actually working behind the cash register!) www.jamesavery.com. You can also do a search for James Avery on Ebay as there are many items there, too. As far as that goes, you can search just for 'charms' on Ebay and find some real bargains.

I really like the idea of organizing instead of eating, too!! I did that to the garage the week before surgery because it was driving me CRAZY!

Kity - going back to work is OK. I wish I'd taken 10 days off instead of 7, though. I would have felt much better sooner, I think.

Love to all of you!! XOXO

Hi Team April!

I missed you guys but I'm happy to say that I am officially a member of BANDLAND!! I'm still pretty sore but I'm feeling a lot better since I got off the vicoden. I have a quick question. I take serotonin uptake inhibitor and I was wondering if anyone has tried swallowing pills yet? It's a pretty small pill to begin with and I was hoping if I divide it in two and then take a swig of Water it would go down....any thoughts?

How are my other April 11th band sisters doing? I'm on full liquids and tomorrow I move to mushies. I've never been more grateful to eat cottage cheese in my life! Are you guys hungry at all? I don't know what hunger feels like but my tummy sure is making a LOT of noise. Hope you are all doing well. Good luck to those having surgery, in recovery or anxiously waiting.

With love,

Doctor just called me and said my lab work shows I have a Urinary Tract Infection.. so they are taking me off the antibiotics I'm on and putting me on new ones. Very weird, I have absolutely NO symptoms!!! Luckily, my heart sank thinking they were going to tell me I have to post-pone the surgery.. but I just have to take the new stuff until the night before surgery. Now I wonder how long I've had it..

I had my surgery on April 9th. I was self pay so stayed the first night in the hotel the surgery center provided.

The pain was much more than I had anticipated. My doctor doesn't want his patients drugged to the point of not walking and sipping. It was ROUGH!!

I'm 4 days post surgery and feeling much better. I still have pain at the port site and pulling of that area. I'm trying to learn my lap band body..which is very weird. I think I swallow air and it doesn't go down..painful but it teaches you quickly what NOT to do. I'm trying hard to drink as much Fluid as I need..but I wasn't good at that before.

I will start full liquids tomorrow and don't really know the scope of what that means yet.

My advice to those that are coming. Make sure you have someone to help you for at least 3 days. Be kind to yourself this time in your life and take two weeks off if at all possible!!

I was going to take off only one week but decided for the first time in my life I was going to take care of myself.

My husband has been an angel about helping me, even though he wasn't onboard with the idea of lap band at first.

I'm now starting MY NEW BEGINNING!!!!!!:clap2: :clap2: :clap2:

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!! TO Househuntress & Bwaydiva! :clap2: You got through it!! Just take it real easy, by day 4 I was feeling a bit better househuntress, it does take it out of you, it did me too, but each day you'll feel better and better :) . Bwaydivia, I would have thought swallowing your pills would be ok, on the first morning after the op the nurse made me swallow a pill, cant remember what it was for either??

Wow, Laura, that is so exciting having a house built, youve got so much to look forward too, decorating etc!!

Well, after yesterday I thought Id go careful with what I ate. I had a tiny amount of cottage cheese & pinapple, then later on in the day I had some mushie rice and a sweet n sour sause with tiny choped up chicken pieces in, I thought Id be ok........NOT.....as I swallowed the rice it got stuck in my osephagus, I tried to take another mouthful thinking it would go down, I then had this terrible pain in my strunum, I flapped my arms about (as Id heard this is supposed what to do if food gets stuck) my daughter was sitting on the setee in the kitchen, and burst out laughing, as I was stomping around flapping my arms, trying to breath normally, anyway I ran to the kitchen sink (Im sorry if this is too graphic folks) and coughed, all this slim or Fluid came up, then I coughed more and the food came back up until I was sick.....OMG....I am back on soup....(I havent even had a fill, what is going on, what if this happns to me at work next week, I'll die!).

Im not eating soft rice again :) maybe Im over confident, has anyone else had this happen to them yet ...Terry...Pam????

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
