Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters

Recommended Posts

I have noticed a number of posts about gum, I always have gum in my mouth, is there something I don't know?

As far as exercising goes, 35 minutes is a lot for me. I am very overweight and at the MOST I get 25 minutes but usually it is about 15 or 20 minutes on the treadmill. Maybe the exercise can be edited for those not yet banded or those that are not able to exercise at least 35 minutes?

I just popped in because I'm overly-anxious and excited for these 2 weeks to pass. I talked to my surgeon today about some questions I had and he was very obliging and didn't get offended at my drilling.

Janie, I'm in the same boat. Due to the pain in my lower back, it's excruciating for me to be walking for more than 10 minutes at a time (SIGH).

But I bought 'The Bean' as someone else here said they got it and yadda yadda.

For me, who has a hard time walking, it's been great. It relieves the pain in my back for me to do crunches and stretches. Do what you can ;) It will come to you in time. I can't wait!

Hey skinnysomeday,

I'm not good with computers either but somehow I managed to get mine up! I went to www.tickerfactory.com and basically followed the instructions. On the main page, scroll down and click on 'weight loss' to create your weight loss ticker or 'event' to create your countdown. Then when you have finished making your ticker you copy the first link provided and paste it into your signature box (which you can find under 'edit signature' in the 'user CP' section of this site). Then don't forget to click on 'save signature'.

I hope that helps.

Ellen.

OK, I just made a mistake.............. Less than 3 minutes ago I put a peice of sf gum in my mouth and it must of triggered something because now My hunger pains are enough to make me nautious!!!! SPITTING IT OUT NOW...

going to get a glass of Water and hope like hell this nawing in my stomach subsides!

Hi Tracy...

Chewing gum is a big no no

It does something to your insulin & blood sugars hence cravings / hunger

It sucks rope...WE'RE EVEN F***ED FOR CHEWING GUM....:huytsao ;):):D

If I were you...I would never eat chewing gum again because it defo does affect hunger levels... anyway, think of your teeth...:biggrin1: :biggrin1: :biggrin1:

Terri doodle... did you set your hair on fire yet?

Hey guys, it's actually me this time...hubby's in bed ;)

Anyway, last night wasn't exactly the smoothest night I've ever had...I wish I had a recliner to sleep in...I think sleeping elevated a bit helped in the hospital, though my back started hurting sleeping like that. but anyway, i'm doing ok...still sore and it's hard to get up and down, but once i'm 'settled' in a position, it's not so bad. We didn't get my prescription pain meds (i was feeling 'ok' at the time, and i have liquid extra strength tylenol here)...but i'm kinda wishing I had gotten it. Hopefully mom got hers and I can just take a dose of hers instead of paying $30 for my own (that's my prescription co-pay....yucky). But then again, I might just keep taking the liquid tylenol...*shrug*

I've noticed that walking does help, but I don't have much room here as we are VERY bad at the housecleaning thing....so it's a royal mess at my house...:-

I get to go visit mom today while DH goes to pick up some furniture that someone's giving us for free :) Which is good, cuz mom has cable :-D LOL.

Anyway...I just wanted get on and say hello and good luck to all of you getting banded today....high spirits!!

I just said a prayer for all of you getting banded today. I prayed for God to guide your surgeon's hands and for speedy recoveries!

Take care

-Panda-

Good morning everyone!

WHAT A GREAT DAY YESTERDAY. I am so amazed and proud of all of you, home same day and feeling so great! My Dr. keeps you in overnight all the time and I can't go home until I can drink 1ltr of Water and keep it down. I hate not knowing what time my surgery is, I won't know until Friday the 13th, and I'll be anxiously calling from the road, as I will be traveling home that day.

I am just so proud of you all!

I made it through day 1 of liquids!

I missed an interesting night around here, but our power went off for 4 hours and it was an overall WEIRD night.

Congrats to our newly banded buds!!!!

Welcome to all the newbies joining us!

The scale said I am down 3 lbs from yesterday...... yeah, I know its the first week Water, but I DON'T CARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!;)

Terri: You are BEAUTIFUL! Look at those legs! WOW! They already look great. My before pics are SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Bad... I think this last time I gained my weight back it went to ODD places..... OH well, I know the walking will help.

To those on the exercise challenge.............. you can split up the 30 minutes.. and I say... 15 minutes of walking for a formerly sedentary person is 100% better than NOT doing anything...... (this is what I'm telling myself)

Also: The April 06'rs have really taken us under their wings........ they often pop in here and give us support. They have changed the exercise challenge to accomodate us newbies, and BOO has started a Bandversary thread where they post their thoughts on the last year...... (IT IS REALLY WONDERFUL!) Heck Kat even sent me some clothes that she undergrew!!!! (most of them don't fit me yet, but they will!) NOW that is a bonded band buddy!

NOW I REMEMBER WHY I WANTED THE BAND: This morning I had to change my freakin' clothes THREE TIMES before I found something that didn't make me look like a sausage. (This is a difficult season in Houston--too early to wear Spring-y clothes but too warm to wear the winter ones) I would have definitely been in tears if I wasn't getting banded tomorrow. If I had to sum up my feelings in one word on this day--the eve of my surgery-- that word would be HOPE. At least there is HOPE.

Tracy - thanks for your flattery but, trust me, it's not pretty. I don't see "beautiful" when I look in the mirror....but I will soon! I am glad that the band became available to me before I reached my sister's weight....that was clearly my destination and I was moving rapidly toward it. (I've gained 60# in 3 years and no indication it was slowing down.)

Sara Mos??? WHERE ARE YOU??

Oh My God Terri....

:)   I HATE THAT!!!

I have a fashion show every day...

My wardrobe is actually FULL of clothes that don't fit..

My bedroom is upside down most of the time over the daily clothes saga!!! I HATE getting dressed..it takes ages

I mostly wear tracksuits (that's sweat suits to those in the US of A)

because I feel totally Squished & suffocated in anything else...

I am most happy (well, happy is not the right word) in PJ's at the moment...

:notagree :notagree :notagree

Yesterday I came home, went upstairs & literally RIPPED off what I was wearing to get into the PJ's..so I could breath..

I rushed back down & My husband did a double take..then said "eh.. that was quick" I was up & back before he even noticed me gone haha...

Superman in a phone box...that's me

Can't wait to be able to leave the house within an hour of getting up wearing something CASUAL...that's not a tracksuit!

I can only "dress up" in black at mo...I look like an undertaker all the time... I am in mourning for my lost wardrobe...:cry :cry :cry :cry

Just wanted to check in.. Those who have had the surgery wow!!! YOU'RE DOING SO GOOD!!! I hope that I will be as lucky!

last night was really hard on my pre op diet.. hubby made meat balls but then.. he also made homemade ravioli (sigh). I did not have any but for the life of me I wanted to. Its weird... I have been going this whole time before pre op diet on the diet with no problems then bam.. its official time to be on it and I have such a horrible night. I just ate my meatball and went to bed. I had to close the door and light all my candles (too many to count) so I could block out the smell of his cooking. I didn't want to say anything to my husband because I dont want him to feel bad for fixing that stuff because I cant tell when I am going to have a hard time or not. I am much better this morning but he is still a little mad that I left the table with out a word and went to bed. But I couldn't say anything..

well.. I made it through it so.. that is a positive note right? I did not give in... even though I wanted to.

One day of liquids down and 13 more. It is not too hard, but I agree night time is the hardest. I have to admit I cheated a bit last night and threw some frozen blueberries in my drink and blended. Never thought I would say I cheated on Blueberries!!

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
