hi Everybody!

My first post since it became April (was away yesterday)

Good luck to all you who are...

Going in for surgery today/tomorrow & this week

Starting your pre op diets

Starting your excercise...

Very exciting.

I am flying to London today for my consultation with Dr Ashton...

I will let you all know how I get on...A bit nervous.

I have signed myself up to walk the Flora Women's mini marathon in Dublin on Mon June 4th!!

:faint:

That is 9 weeks away... It is a 10k walk. (that will be 7 weeks post op)

I entered it to mark a turning point for me. That will be my first goal.

I am not interested in breaking records, I am doing it FOR ME...

It is a great incentive to get going!! :cheer2:

So.....I've lit the fire under my Ass:flame:

That's awesome!! Way to stay motivated... I have to agree with you, on the "Farewell to food tour"... My husband was going to take me to the Cheesecake Factory the night before I have to start my pre-op diet... but I think the healthy I start eating NOW, the quicker I'll reach my WL goal. I'll finally have all my hurdles cleared (6 months supervised weight loss, psych eval, gall bladder and renal scan, cardio eval, bloodwork) finished on 4/25, when my MD will submit to insurance co... so I'm likely to have a May surgery date.

Yay.. I can't wait :-)

In overland Park. I hope you do well today. My regular doctor fought very hard and got it qualified. If you ever come this way, let me know. Many of us need each other for support. I knew that I needed to change my life so I could enjoy it. I know its the best decision I made for myself in many years. You will be glad, too. Some weeks I don't loose as much as I think I should, but I am not gaining. I am so much happier now with the surgery.

Good Luck and fast recovery.:clap2:

I am self pay (not easy for my family to do). I have been turned down for private insurance because of my weight, with zero-health problems. DH is not offered insurance at his work. I have been "at home" since late 2004 and FINNALLY got pregnant and carried full term.... 10-19-05. That's the day I became Mazie's mommy!! I have chosen to stay home with her since then (and probably til' she turns 2).

My expenses are totalling just about $18,000.00 with a full year of follow up and fills. DH is "so" supportive that he used the word twice, and finally decided to take me to, and from, the hospital on sugery day! (my sister took time off from work to take me/never thought he would take me) DH does not want to be penalized/punished because I want to make changes! I know I'm in this for me.......But, a little help/suuport here......would be great!!! It does hurt my feelings when I get the eyerolls or comments that are...not so nice. As much as I want him to be Mr. Wonderful--sometimes he's just not!!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL IN APRIL ---GREAT SURGERY --FAST RECOVERY -- LITTLE PAIN --BEST RESULTS ---AND MUCH HEALTH, TO EVERYONE!!!!!

my doctor has not put me on any type of pre-op diet. I'm going to do one anyways three days before surgery. I read somewhere that three days is enough for your liver to go down. anyways, my question is how bad would it be if i had mexican food the night before my surgery. I know I'm not supposed to eat after midnight but i'm talking about 7pm. Will that affect my liver in such a short period of time? I'm being banded in Monterrey MX, never been there and my sister can't stop talking about this Mexican restaurant that I have to try. That's why I'm asking....

Thanks!

Hey Chica, we are going to be band twins. We have the same surgery date. I looked on my pre-op instructions and it said in big letters "NO BIG MEAL THE DAY BEFORE!!!!!!!!!!" :hungry: Soooo I guess that means go very lite. I'm going to do a semi liquid diet 3 days before to be on the safe side.

Have a great day.

Tracy - why have you gained weight?? Was it your famous Farewell to food Tour? I have been doing a *little* bit of that, really not too bad, and I'm bumping up at my high, too (215)....I seem to be gaining and losing 3# over and over. Story of my life for the last 6 mos. Water Water Water. More Water.

Tonight I take photos and measurements. I'd rather have my hair set on fire.

I'm thinking of my sisters out there getting banded today...and have been all morning! Sending lots of positive energy your way! Can't wait to hear from you and hope you're all just peachy-keen! :D

I'm also a bit nervous. My mom is pretty sick (she has COPD) and I'd say there's a 50-50 chance they'll put her in the hospital in the next few days. What timing, eh? Especially since I haven't told her or my sister about my surgery....and surely can't postpone it without some type of penalty. I'm really wringing my hands over that one. Should know more this afternoon or tomorrow. :help:

Yes Terri, up until today I have been eating everything that has not been glued down...... and when it was glued down, I tried to pry it loose with my swollen fingers! LOL

Hi there! I don't know if this will help you or not, but a band-sister posted a diet suggestion a few weeks ago and it actually REALLY has worked for me -

chicken, no breading or sauces

veggies

3 oranges/day - although I only eat 1 - 2/day (this BTW - is EXCELLENT for curbing those ravenous hunger moments in the mid-afternoon)

stay away from carbs as much as possible

grab a slim fast shake for Breakfast

have a slice of cracker barrel cheese for the mid-morning snack

small container of 2% cottage cheese at lunch

no Desserts (although I haven't wanted any)

and Water, water, water, occasional crystal lite, and more water

I've been doing this for just shy of 3 weeks and I've dropped 12 pounds....yay! I did NOT want to have to do a liquid pre-surgery diet and now that I've lost - I don't have to do it!!! :D

I have a hospital pre-op appt tomorrow morning and then band date is Thursday, April 5th! YAY!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL!!!!!

Many many many positive vibes to all being banded this week and this month!

Can't wait! Hope everyone's recovery is smooth and the weight just peels off! :)

Take care and happy band-birthday to all! :)

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
