my doctor has not put me on any type of pre-op diet. I'm going to do one anyways three days before surgery. I read somewhere that three days is enough for your liver to go down. anyways, my question is how bad would it be if i had mexican food the night before my surgery. I know I'm not supposed to eat after midnight but i'm talking about 7pm. Will that affect my liver in such a short period of time? I'm being banded in Monterrey MX, never been there and my sister can't stop talking about this Mexican restaurant that I have to try. That's why I'm asking....

Thanks!

I don't have a pre-surgery diet per say, but my dr did want me to do a liquid diet the day before to make sure my stomach is empty not swollen. I can have full liquids but didn't want me to eat solid food. I hope that helps guide you, You are the only one who can make that decision if you were not required to be on a pre-op diet.

Good Luck

Suddenly, I apparently have nerves. Not only do I have nerves, but they're shaking! LOL.

Seriously, I've had my first few "panic" attacks - that feeling of "oh my gosh...what on earth am i doing?" and "is this really happening?....for so long it was a distant dream....am I REALLY going to be banded by this time tomorrow?!?!?"

TOMORROW! :faint:

Don't get me wrong, I'm THRILLED beyond words...but...i'm just now starting to have those weird moments of, "i'm really doing this....wow...oh my gosh...." LOL...up until now...i've just been floating through, like it's nothing...LOL. Suddenly, it's really hitting home...LOL. Hopefully, I won't get all nervous-sick tomorrow...I"m hoping i'll just be excited and happy - no nervousness at all!!

To all the rest of you joining Bandlandia tomorrow, I'll keep you in my prayers. To the rest of you, as long as I do get to go home tomorrow, I will post...if not, then it will be Tuesday as soon as they realease me.

((75% of my dr's patients get to go home same day...and since I"m going in at 8:30, I'm REALLY praying for a release same day...)))

Take it easy everyone!!

My doctor wanted me to be on a two day clear liquid diet before surgery. This is day 1 at 1:30pm and I'm ready to eat the table. Wood has protien, right? It has to be better with a 1/2 oz stomach, because this will put me on a five day clear liquid diet including surgery day.

OMG OMG OMG :omg:

Surgery is less than a week away!!!! I am sooo excited!

How is everyone else doing with their pre-op diets? I've lost 7 lbs of the 12 lbs I need to lose. I stalled there for a bit and keep losing and gaining the same 2 lbs. I finally broke down and spoke to Dr. Miranda (Nutritionist @ Dr. Ortiz's office). She recommended that I take chromium picolate and I've been losing ever since! YAY! 4 days and 5 lbs to go... I hope I make it!

I just wanted to wish all of the April 2nd bandsters luck and congratulations! I hope you have a speedy recovery!

:girl_hug: Hello Everyone,

I figured I had better get my last pre-surgery post in before I head off to church tonight.

I have been on Clear Liquids since last evening. Not too bad so far. Had coffee this morning. Propel Water and beef bouillon broth for lunch. sugar free popcycles and sugar free Jello for later, with water in between. Nothing after midnight.

I am so ready for tomorrow.

I pray that we all do well through surgery and have speedy recoveries.

Hopefully I will be back home and posting again by this time tomorrow.

Darla:clap2:

Sometimes reading the posts here make me wonder if some people just weren't mentally ready for WLS and needed more time with the bariatric team psychiatrist. Complaining about the limited drink/food choices early on... blah..blah...blah. The living to eat mentality really needs to go and be replaced with eating to live. JS

We have to remember that everyone moves at their own pace. For some it may be harder to adjust, people may have other factors at play that feed into the unhealthy relationship with food e.g. eating disorders, trauma. I'd hope those who you are referring to address this outside of this forum, with a professional.

This is a place to feel safe to vent, seek advice, hopefully without judgement.

Compassion goes a long way :)

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.
