Drinking whilst eating

Recommended Posts

You will be surprised how little people notice what you are NOT eating or drinking. Everyone gets caught up in the socializing and they don't notice. I've been at parties, my own included, where I've never had a drink. No one noticed. I've been in many social settings and no one noticed. I was on a cruise for 7 days and no one noticed what I didn't eat or drink. Its really very easy.

The things we hold onto or think will be problems before surgery turn out to be non issues afterwards. Good luck and enjoy the journey.

The first time I went out to eat with my band I ordered a glass of tea. When it came I looked at my son and said "why did I get this? I can't even drink it!" I had a few sips before my lunch came and left the rest. I hope they didn't think they served bad tea!

I usually don't drink a drop until well after I've eaten. If I've eaten something spicy or what I ate leaves a horrible taste in my mouth, I take a small sip to get rid of the taste and that's it.

Think of yourself as a rich thin society socialite who never wants to put calories to her lips, but goes to high falutin' social events all the time. She can pull it off with class and so can you.

I follow the band rules to a "T". I do not drink while eating, I wait 1 hour before drinking after I eat.

But, to stop the questions from everyone when I go out with a group, I order a glass of Water. They don't ever notice that I don't drink it.

I am right there with you. I always get Water and no one ever notices. When I go out with the family, we use my glass to wash the babies pacifier if he drops it :D

May I ask what actually happens when you PB?

pretty much projectile "vomiting" ... it comes from the stoma (not the stomach so there is no stomach acid)... it wasnt horrible, but i dont want to do it again either.

Not drinking with eating is definately now the hardest part for me. I don't drink for 30 minutes before or after. I'm sure the time will come where I may feel I HAVE to drink - and I will probably pay for it in the end.

Yeah, you're right. It doesn't make sense not to drink with meals on the liquid stage. It's just good to start practicing now....... Behave like a good bandster now to get those good habits down right from the beginning.

I drink fluids right up to the moment I start eating, but then none for 60-90 minutes.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
