Hi everyone!!

I have been reading everyone's posts for the past few days and now want to introduce myself.

I am just starting out on this journey. The decision to have gastric bypass did not come easy. I always thought if could do it on my own if i would only try harder. I'm sure that many of you have felt the same way. But, things are just not happening for me the way that I want them to.

I just got married in May and my husband and I really wanted to get pregnant right away. Of course it did not happen. Mainly due to the weight and the fact that I have PCOS. I was trying to lose weight for the wedding because every girl wants to look their best on that day, and I was not successful. After the wedding I was trying to lose the weight agian and started to lose a little but it came right back on plus some. It was the week of Thanksgiving and I had a doctors appointment, went to the appointmant and not only did I gained weight but my blood pressure was high. My blood pressure has never been a problem. Then in the same week I visited my favorite Aunt. She is in her 60's and has so many health problems. I don't know if they are from her being obese for as long as I can remember but I'm sure it does. All of these things combined really got me scared and thinking. So on Thanksgiving I told my husband that I wanted to put off trying to have kids for a while and get gastric bypass.

He has been very supportive. He onlys wants me to do it if I want to. I kow quite a few people who have had this procedure done. They have all had success with little complications. One has even had 3 kids since having the operation. Even with knowing that it can be done and how wonderful they have all felt after losing the weight, I am still very nervous and scared. I have never had an operation nor been in the hospital....ever! This alone scares me. But I am also nervous of the potential risks and complications following the surgery. I am still moving forward with my plans but I just wanted to share my story with you and see if anyone else feels the same way.

So far I have been to a seminar, met with the surgeon and had blood work done. I just received my paperwork for what tests I need to have done and plan on making the appointments this week.

Thanks for reading and I hope to speak with all of you through out this journey.

Tara

First of all welcome to the boards. While I am beyond child bearing years, there are many on the boards going thru your same issues. And of course we have all suffered from weight issues. I am glad you have found us. Good luck on your journey.

Hi, I do not blog but I would like to keep in contact with you through our journeys. I think it's a great idea and could really use the support of someone going through the same thing and emotions as me. Where do you blog? I hope to hear from you soon :)

Welcome! I'm sure you'll find lots of support and answers on here :) I just wanted to say that I decided to have weight loss surgery in order to be able to have children one day. I was 252lbs at my heaviest and had PCOs. I just knew it wouldn't happen. Obviously, I think you're doing the right thing here. :) Again, welcome! :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
