It's been a while since I have posted, my complications have been getting me down, but I am happy to report that my hole from my abscesses is shrinking and although I am still on the wound vacuum it looks like there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I had my surgery October 25th and was wondering about red wine. Now I haven't tried it yet and would be more than happy to wait, but has anyone tried it? Did it agree with u? It was one vice I d really like to indulge in every now and again.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I am pre surgery, but I was originally going to get sleeved where alcohol isn't as concentrated as it is with RNY. I am in the hospitality industry, selling wine is what I do. My doc was a little concerned that this could be an issue for me. I found out that 1 glass of wine for us would be like having 5 or a bottle.

My husband is a wine maker & I loooove me some Riesling, in fact it's probably what I miss most post-op. My surgeon said I could drink after 6 months, but to start very slow with it and make sure you're home with someone in case it doesn't sit well and you end up getting super drunk. Like a lot of things in the RNY world there seems to be a lot of differing opinions, but I know people who've had the surgery and drink wine just fine. Best of luck & Cheers!

Six months seems like a good time to try and I can wait that long. Thanks for sharing guys!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
