New here, my surgery is this friday 1/18

Recommended Posts

I have been on my preop diet for almost 2 weeks and have lost 18 lbs so far. My highest weight was 303 but started my liquid diet at 299 so I guess I have actually lost 21 lb. I am doing really good mentally, I feel as prepared as u can be but would love any encouragement or advice. I guess one question would be, "what did u wear home from the hospital?"

I wore pajama pants or sweat pants I think, something super comfy because you'll be sore when you're heading home. I bought really cheap (not too tight at all) sports bra from Walmart and wore one of those instead of a regular bra- I highly recommend that!

Welcome and wishing you the very best on Friday. I just wore lose fitting clothes there and the same ones back.

I am glad you joined us. We are anxious to go on this journey with you and have you on ours.

Remember sip walk and rest. Use the pain meds that are offerered to stay ahead of the pain. The pain is usually manageable, but don't try to tough it out, use the meds. Let us know, when you can how you are doing.

We are here for you. This place has a wealth of information and support.

Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the encouragement and advice. I will wear sweats and plan to wear them home. But I'm also gonna bring my nice nightgown and robe and might end up wearing that if my tummy is too sore. Good advice on the pillow to ride home with.

I had surgery Monday (1/14) & just got home last pm. Having said that, I wore Jammie bottoms in & when I came home last night. Pack chap stick or lip gloss cause that 1st day cotton mouth is pretty rough. Ask to swish & spit immediately if you have to drink barium!!!! Pain meds in hospital are good, use them! I asked for something not so strong at home & not sure if that was wise...Best wishes to you!!! Keep us posted & check out January dates, lots of info in there : )

Mine is on Friday, too! I'm SO ready for this, it's ridiculous! I have my bag all packed - 90% of it is PILLOW! I'm also wearing the same thing home as I'm wearing to the hospital: PJ pants and baggy t-shirt. Not even gonna bother with a bra, but the iPad and phone is a must! I must be able to communicate with you all and read words of encouragement while I'm there.

Good luck to you, and see you "on the other side"!!

So how r u 10 days out. I'm doing pretty good, my incisions are itchy and I pulled a muscle in my chest/underarm that's a challenge. But other than that I feel good. Oh yeah, also I'm ready to eat something. Tired of drinking all my meals. How r u getting along?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
