formyboyscabnmac 2 Posted January 14, 2013 I haven't got a surgery date yet but I am anxiously awaiting my final appointments. I have been overweight since I was 5 years old and was first diagnosed with obesity when I was 12. Now I'm 22 and have tried everything to lose weight naturally. In August I was diagnosed with hypertension and was told I would be a good candidate for surgery. My BMI is over 50, which totally freaks me out. Luckily my husband is Active Duty Army and our insurance will cover everything. The process for going through an Army hospital is a bit different and shorter than for the civilian world. The process included an initial consult, 4 nutrition appointments, 3 psych, 2 visits with a wellness center to determine exercise, a surgery orientation and the appointment to set the date. I have four appointments left before I can meet with the surgeon again. I will be done with those by the end of the week. I'm happy about my decision to complete the process but nervous about the surgery itself. I have never had any surgeries or even broken a bone. I'm hoping I'm making the right decision! Wendilou 180 Posted January 14, 2013 Welcome! I am at the same stage as you are--waiting for final appointments (which is driving me absolutely nuts BTW). I am 38 years old, however, and I wish I had done this yeas ago.

Dawnolson 85 Posted January 16, 2013 Hi welcome too! I am still in the process of my surgery as well. I have one more visit with the nutritionist and then blood work and then surgeon visit and hopefully to pick a date. Hopefully by April!
worm2872 635 Posted January 16, 2013 Hi and Welcome!!! This is the best place for advice and support. Everyone here is really kind and they are very helpful. I, like you, never had surgery before so I was scared crapless! I got through it and it is not that bad. I can say that it was much easier knowing what will happend and what to expect. I felt like an expert LOL. Feel free to ask any questions and good luck to you!! Time will fly by!!
