WA State Companies with Health Insurance that COVERS the band??!!

Recommended Posts

Help!!:help:

I am in desperate need of finding any companies within the Seattle area....or ANYTHING close that have health insurance that covers the band. I know that ADP (payroll company) does but that's about it....Maybe Cingular or some national companies...if anyone perhaps works for a national or large company and they got approved please please please let me know. My mom worked at ADP for 7 years and had UHC and they covered the band but I had to be 18 So now I will be 18 in 2 weeks and she just got a brand new job still with UHC but they employer disn't chose to have the band be covered. Just my luck!

So if anyone can give any advice it would be veyr much appreciate!!!

Thank you!!

Hi Audrey,

I have Regence Blue Shield and they just changed their policy on Jan. 2 to include LapBand, BUT you have to have one year suppervised diet. That's what got me! I had 10 months of LA Weight Loss. No good. Hope this helps. I finally bit the bullet and just got back from Mexico :clap2: :clap2:

I just found out that our Regence Blue Shield a Boeing plan covers LAP Band as of Jan 1st, 2007. I had my surgery on Dec 22, as the insurance company didn't inform me that this would be a covered benefit in the new year. Even thought I had called the insurance company five or six times since September, but know one could tell me or funny how know one knew. We have now sent in all the required papers and just got a letter on Friday, asking for additional information. They wanted five different visits in five different years, showing my weight being over 100 pounds or double my ideal body weight. So, it has been faxed and we will see. If anything I will appeal it until it's exausted. Good Luck, finding a company that will cover your surgery.

You might want to get started on a medically supervised diet (either by your Dr., Medical weight Loss center, etc) becasue if you do get a job and ahve the insurance many require a 6-12 month Dr. supervised diet. That way if you do get a job that covers it you will already be on the road to meeting the criteria.

Philips Oral Health has UHC that covers the lap band. Their corporate offices are in Snoqualmie & they have sites in Auburn & Bothell.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
