I need some help I am sooo confused!! I am in the State of Mississippi and my insurance is State and Teachers Insurance/BCBS.. and this is their first year covering bariatric surgery. They have changed so many things in these past few weeks. I was informed of the policy changes in October and I have completed all pre testing.. Psych, sleep study, labs.. PCP clearance.. etc.. And I had my surgeon consult Jan 3rd.. This is the issue. I was told that we had to have 6 month supervision diet beginning January 1,2013!!! ugggghhh... With that being said... I have already had over a year of supervision with my PCP and with my insurance weight management program. Well earlier this week I received a call stating that the State has changed the requirements that we CAN use the previous months... SO I AM READY is what they told me and my bariatric coordinator, Mary states that she will submit my information for pre-cert.. My question is what happens now? What is the turn around time? What if I am denied? <_< I have been busy with tasks since I found out about the policy changes.. I have began to work out and watch what I eat and I have lost 28 pounds to show my determination to this lifestyle change.. :D :D

Now you wait!!! That's he worst stinking part :/. You've done your job, sounds like your surgeons office did there's, it's out of your hands :). Turn around for most is a few days to a couple weeks. If you are denied then your case coordinator will know how to appeal but honestly it sounds like you've done your research and have all your ducks in a row!!!!

Take this time to educate yourself on postop life. Pray, and dream of how awesome you'll be feeling by summer!!!! Good luck!!!

Once your surgeon submits everything to the ins. company, its just a waiting game after that. Mine was submitted on a Monday and I was called on that thrusday that it was approved.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
