So, on Valentine's Day I will have my psychological evaluation. Let me start by saying I am very sane and I am getting this surgery for all the right reasons. My questions for those of you who have had your psychological evaluations are, what kind of questions do they ask? Is there something's I should or shouldn't say? Do I have to lay on a couch?(Lol) What's the deal? Never needed to have this type of evaluation so I'm really curious to find out what I will be facing.......(-; HELP

My psych eval was no big deal really just a lot of questions to make sure you don't have some deep rooted emotional suicidal issues. I mean we all have an emotional connection to food in some way or we wouldn't be here. There was a short interview and a questionnaire of 175 questions grading 1-5 (1 being most likely 5 least likely). They did throw in some goofy questions I guess to be sure you are actually reading the test. I passed with flying colors and my hubby calls me a psycho on a daily basis ;) You should do fine. Don't sweat it!!

Mine was part test, part talk. They just want to be sure you don't this is a cure or quick easy fix for being overweight. I almost laughed out loud when mine asked me about my childhood - so cliche! Oh, I sat on a couch. Lol

Mine was 560 questions all true or false took almost 2 hrs. It was old school where you fill in the circle with number 2 pencil. Then I had a 1 hr session to go over it, it was over rated I passed glad that parts done!

My evaluation was about 2 hrs. , they asked all kinds of questions about what your expectations of the surgery is. They also wanted to see that I knew the surgery was a tool and that I had to work with the surgery to lose weight and that the surgery was not a magic tool to lose weight, but that I had to work with it. They also wanted to know that it was me who wanted the surgery and that there was no husband/boyfriend wanting me to get the surgery and that it was me and only me who wanted the surgery. She expained that she had quite a few people come in that their spouses wanted them to have surgery and one mother and son where the mother called the son fat and lazy and wanted him to have the surgery, he was like 16. She said she always declines people that are there from someone else and not them selves.

I work in psych and have worked with preoperative and postoperative WLS patients, just by coincidence, not specialty. I have only seen one person denied because of the psych Eval due to extensive psych history of self injury and severe personality disorder. That said, mine consisted of just a therapy session with lots of questions regarding history, no tests were administered.

Some psychologists do testing to rule out personality disorders that might hinder a person's recovery or their ability to cope.

Your title to the thread reminds me of on the tv show "BIG BANG THEORY" when they accuse Sheldon of being crazy and he says "no I am not, my mom had me tested"

you will do fine.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
