Why can wecdrink? Is it because Alcohol has empty calories or is there another reason we aren't allowed to drink for at least 6 months??

After rny your system can not break down the alcohol as it used to. You are drunker faster and it lasts longer taking as little as one drink.

I had a glass of wine about 3 months post op. with no side effects what so ever. I do not get drunk or buzzed any faster than before surgery. I like to have my glass of red wine at night becuase it is very healthy for you. Everyone is different and handles alcohol differently, I tolerate the alochol the same as before surgery. You just need to know that alcohol has empty calories so drink in moderation. My surgeons office said that you would get durnk quicker and to be very careful which I was when I first had a glass of wine. If you do have a drink I would make sure you are home, eat first, and see what your reaction is becaue you don't want to be out and get sick or really drunk. Do some testing at home first.

I can drink about 2 oz of wine send feel like I am tipsy, I enjoy wine and I may treat myself to a small glass once a week. If I drink a moscato I tend to feel it more. I think because of the sugar. Just be careful because wine is full of empty calories.

I was told by my doctor not to drink for the first year due to the liver. He said that the rapid weight loss during the first year was hard on the liver and that drinking alcohol put it under additional strain. He also mentioned all the concerns that previous posters have mentioned such as getting drunk quickly and cross addiction. But the primary medical reason for him was liver function.

I'm 3 months out and have had an occasional glass of wine (white) at social functions. I can not yet drink red wine-have tried but doesn't sit we'll in my stomach. Tonight I drank a small light/low carb beer and did ok. I also do not find me to get a buzz quick.

My surgeon doesn't allow it. I know everyone handles it differently, but my Nut and nurse call us "cheap dates" because we don't eat much and it only takes a sip or two to get drunk. Just be careful when driving, it doesn't matter how much you drank, intoxicated is intoxicated to the police.

I was told not to till the incisions are completely healed and you get cleared by the doctor.

I wouldn't do it, nor do I have any desire to drink. I will later on in life maybe some wine at a wedding or special event. If I did, I'd want to wait 6+ months out naturally. There is such a high risk for alcoholism among RNY patients especially; it's astounding. Alcohol is absorbed entirely different now in our bodies.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
