Scared as hell, operation scheduled in 3.5 weeks.

Recommended Posts

Well, here I am, mixed emotions with regards to having surgery. I certainly don't enjoy the extra weight, sleep apnea, sore backs, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and low self esteem. However, just thinking about being operated on in such a permanent way is taking its toll on me. I can feel the anxiety building.

I'm mostly worried about complications, malabsorption issues after surgery or in the long term and dumping syndrome I hear so frequently about.

My emotions are in a bit of a "yo-yo" mode as I was giving my operation date a couple of days ago.

Can anyone relate to how I'm feeling, and how did you deal with it?

I feel your pain. I was scheduled for Sleeve surgery on January 30th and after a long heart to heart with My primary care physician (and myself) she felt it better for me to have bypass, so with mixed emotions I have changed my date to February 6th and having the bypass. I'm scared as hell too!!

It's somehow comforting to know I'm not the only one feeling like this.

Are you doing anything specific to cope?

I'm believe I've been freaking out the past or two waiting for the approval. Called last night and I've been approved, now waiting for the Dr to get the letter and call me to set a date.

I've been eating and eating and eating till I am full at supper time. Trying to figure out if its the "amount", the "taste", the "feeling" that has made me eat and make bad choices. I think it's been the taste and the not willing to live within means and stuff myself.

I'm going through some remorse already about my upcoming new food relationship. So excited, so ready for the commitment, the very structured guidelines, the limits! I'm worried about my Water intake. So I've been chugging Water like crazy too.

I'm of no help, but going through emotions!

Going through many emotions as well especially being on day 11 of the 2 week liquid diet. I've noticed since being on this liquid diet that society places such a huge emphasis on food....it's everywhere oncommercials, radio, available when you're bored, sad, happy or celebrating...it's just everywhere. I am feeling no regrets about my decision....but I do wish I would have realized how hard it was going to be saying goodbye to mounds of delicious junk food.< /p>

It's normal to feel anxiety prior to surgery. I was the same way! But I can tell you that it wasn't that bad. I was up walking the halls four hours after surgery...they had to yell me to slow down :) I'm day four post op and each day gets better. Hang in there and just focus on the new wonderful you :)

You have some discomfort and pain mainly where the main area of the stomach is operated on...you will feel bloated and gassy. You look forward to farting lol....just to get it all out. Takes pressure off your stomach and helps not being so bloated. I haven't had any problems with drinking or eating...I'm on yogurt, cream Soups, hot Cereal, etc.

You will do just fine. I thought the two week liquid diet was worse than surgery!

The hardest day for me was post op day 5. I'm 14 weeks post op today!! Down 60# and feeling on top of the world!! There's no way someone could explain to me 14 weeks ago how amazing I would feel today. I have a little over 100# to get to goal, but it's doable!!! This is an awesome resource!! We are all here for each other! Best of luck! You're in for the ride of your life!!!

I'm going on the 6th of february as well and feeling anxious too.... It is a big decision but if we are commited we will come out of this healthier and happier. I am trying to just remember my reasons for looking in to this in they first place. That is enough for me to keep pushing past the fear.

I'm feeling the same way. I'm like WLS bipolar: eager to tackle the challenge one minute, crumbled hot mess the next...

Yes! I'm the same. I hate the idea of messing with nature but at the same time I know should get this.

You will be fine. This was my first surgery ever in life and it really wasn't that bad. Don't worry yourself so much...just remind yourself you will be ok and that this change is exciting. Good luck :)

Fiusha, Thank you!! I jog 3.6 miles a day about 5 days a week. I consume around 800-1000 calories, mostly Protein. I burn 600 calories on each run, but if I don't eat enough, I do not lose! I cannot stomach shakes anymore!! Ugh!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
