Ok I'm new here. I have been over weight all my life. I have been looking in to wls for 4 years and know quite a bit about it as far as how its done what you can eat after results typical etc. What I don't know is the process.. I have talked to my doctor. Went to the seminar and I am now waiting on the nutritionist from dr.bass's ft myers fl office for an appt. I have medicaid and under stand this will be a long process does anyone know the time frames?

It depends on the Dr. If you have Medicaid, it definitely won't be a long process. If you meet the requirements it might be done in two- six months. I have Medicaid and I started the process in December. I see the surgeon on Friday. Make sure you have you Dr appointments with weigh in's at least 4. Medicaid doesn't takw long.

Everytime I go to the doctor they weigh me ask if I'm dieting is that suffent? I'm seeing dr. Thomas bass. From what they were saying at the seminar I may have to do w weight loss program for 6 months then all the pre op stuff with the surgeon if medicaid covers it.

I have read reports that you have to have diabetes to get Medicaid to pay for wls. I had Medicaid as a secondary and it wouldn't cover the surgery because I didn't have diabetes.

I have a friend that had a gastric sleeve done by Dr. Bass on Dec. 17. She has insurance and her prosess only took 2 months. I know that u have to have at least a record of your weight. If you have a primary that u have seen in the past for at least six months and they have a records of ur weigh in,then thats all u need. Dr. Bass never told my friend that she had to be on a weightloss plan. The process with medicaid is fast. The only thing that might hold u up is your Dr.

She did her surgery Naples because she said that the hospital there had less requirements than Lee county.

Timeframes vary wildly. I am more than 6 mos in a still without a date and I am on their "fast track" program. I am part of a super strict program with incredibly high success rates, low complication rates, and 0 deaths. It all depends on your program. Regardless of how long it is, it will feel too long! Lol

I didn't realize how long it was going to take... oh well patients is a virtue... it will be worth it in the long run. I didbt realize there was a fast track...

The few people that i know in south florida who has had the surgery, the process was not that long. Thats with medicaid and other insurance providers.

My program has a fast track program, but its still longer than most other programs regular programs... It's because I have no co-morbidities. I am really healthy, just way too big!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
