I lost a lot the first couple weeks after my revision from band to bypass but the last few weeks I've only lost 2 pounds per week. It is really hard to not have the scale move at a faster rate. I just keep doing what the doctor says to do and hope that at some point my body will start to cooperate.

I had my surgery on Jan 30th. Lost 20lbs in the first 2 weeks I was home from the hospital. I have not lost an ounce since. :( I have been sitting at 265 for 3 weeks. I did manage to go to down to 263 one day and then It was back up. I have not been losing in inches either. I am frustrated to say the least. I go back to the Doctor on Friday March 13th. I am hoping the nutritionist will have some answers. I am gonna be really upset if i have went through all of this just to lose 20lbs. :(

First it is a diuretic and can lead to dehydration and getting enough fluids can be a challenge for gastric bypass patients at least in the beginning.

Second after a gastric bypass, you are more sensitive to ulcers. Caffeine is something that may cause ulcers in some people, and it will definitely aggravate an existing ulcer if you've started to develop one.

Third, I have read caffeine also interferes with the absorption of Calcium after a gastric bypass. So if you are drinking coffee while taking your calcium you may not absorb your calcium.

I also found a great article regarding caffeine. Enjoy

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
