SandyRI 2 Posted February 2, 2013 OK. Gotta vent. My surgery was January 7th. I was doing super good. My first post op doctor appointment is the 5th and I've only lost 29lbs. Is that normal? I feel super frustrated. I expected more from myself. What should I do. I feel maybe the surgery wasn't for me. What if I completely fail. I don't look any different. I'm disappointed in myself. My surgery was the 9th and I have only lost 28 lbs. I didn't lose anything the first week...in fact I gained because of all the Fluid in the hospital. Talk about frustrating! I know how you feel...I was getting frustrated and discouraged...but we all lose the weight differently. I try to stay positive and keep on plan...I am going to start getting on the treadmill to get some exercise in. Also from other posts I have read about the dreaded "plateaus"...I think I am at one right now...I am refusing to let that get me down and concentrating on the positive. You have lost 29 lbs!! That is awesome! You just have to work through it and don't compare yourself to others! Please don't be disappointed in yourself...be proud of what you have accomplished =o)

I'm on the same boat. My surgery was on the 8th and before I threw my scale out a week ago I was only down 19lbs! I know I started fairly low 247 but I am equally frustrated. I thought u was the only one it wouldn't work for but since you feel that way clearly we both can't be the only ones lol I've been reading and asking and I've been told this is normal so not to panic! I say we give it some more time. Keep doing the right thing and revisit this on a couple weeks. I bet our perspectives will be different. Be positive! Continue the right path! We CAN do this! Natasha K 27 Posted February 2, 2013 I had my surgery Jan 3 and I've lost 27#!! (I almost wrote only lost 27#-yikes!) I haven't lost any weight my 4th week, and I'm not going to freak out. I've never lost that much in one month! It's hard not to weigh myself every day. I'm also trying to have a period. I just keep blotting ( sorry TMI). Maybe that is adding to the slow down? I keep reading of stalls that happen in 3 weeks and here I am! For all the Jan post opers... Congrats!!!! We did it!!!!! Group hug!!! Can't wait to see us all 6mos and 1 year from now! happy2be 4 Posted February 2, 2013 Getting emotional is completely normal; there are a ton of changes our bodies go through just from the physical part of the surgery' date=' and we have a lot to adapt to when learning to care for ourselves so we can heal properly. It's a big job, we have to be mini nurses and good students, paying attention to and learning all the signs and signals of our bodies that we never experienced before. We aren't used to having to rely on someone else to help us do the things we normally do for ourselves, and it can feel debilitating or demeaning, especially more so if we're stubborn or strong willed women (such as I am) and to add to it, it can also be made more difficult depending on how supportive or helpful others are around us. Then add to it we have to learn a new way of eating-we can't have the foods we ate for years, enjoyed and loved, craved and smelled. We still have to be around it, smell it, see it, cook it for our families, and of course decline it and in many cases try to deny to ourselves that we even crave or want it. We have this high expectation on ourselves and with others watching us to lose weight (which we had so much difficulty with before so the pressure is intense) and getting our lives back on track, it's no wonder we crack at times. Of course its hard to stay strong in all this, and getting emotional is something i believe they should prepare us for more. It's a perfect excuse for us to rely on each other, our various support systems and attend support groups when they're available to us. I know I need it, sometimes more than others. I'm here for any of you should you need someone to talk to, text, cry to, scream to, etc. I'm no expert (just a rookie in all this) but I have a couple good ears and don't mind listening. <img src='http://www.bariatricpal.com/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Feel free to message me and I'll give you my phone number. Hugs to all of you.[/quote'] Ready2smile, That was awesome! Thank you! 1 ready2smile reacted to this
Nicole K 352 Posted February 2, 2013 I'm 6 weeks post op and at my one month mark, I lost 29 lbs. You guys are doing awesome. I also didn't lose anything at the 3 week mark. Your body is in starvation mode and is trying like hell to hold onto the fat. It will happen! Just follow the guidelines and you'll keep losing. I have lost an additional 7 lbs since the one month mark. And 10 lbs preop! I only weigh once a week. Otherwise your going to drive yourself nuts. keep up the great work! ready2smile 138 Posted February 3, 2013 I had mine on 29th. Having hard time getting my flood/fluids/protein. How long did it take everyone to meet all three. Still can't always do it and my surgery was 1/10/13. However I am getting much better. Mommywifeandfat gave me a good tip about drinking a bottle of Water before having the 1st Protein Drink of the day. I keep a full one by my bed. This way you're getting half your Fluid in by 11:00-2:00pm (protein drink counts as fluid per my nutritionist). Lovealways (and a couple others) mentioned how she uses crystal light in her water and has no trouble getting it all in-this is a great help to me too. I love the orange and the lemonade. Once you find a good Protein Shake that will help a lot. I hated the vanilla powder I'd bought until I started mixing it with a 16.9 oz bottle of orange crystal lite flavored water. Tastes like a creamsycle. Several people on here use MFP to track their water, food, exercise and Vitamin intake. I do as well and it keeps me accountable. You can add me, I'm karefulme on there. We like to support each other, and appreciate getting it as well.

ready2smile 138 Posted February 3, 2013 OK. I don't think there is such a thing as normal with this surgery. I was after you, 1/10/13 and I have lost 21lbs, (5 are pre-op. I don't count down from the Water and air weight from surgery-just the number on my scale the week before surgery to current). Its not a big number, about 5 a week but I'm taking it! I keep reading about a lot of people having little blips around the 3-4 week mark. When I went in for my staple removal at 2 weeks my NUT said weight loss will significantly slow as it was mostly water, and fat is harder to lose. Most of us newbies have just recently lost our water weight and our bodies are trying to figure out how to handle the next step. I was advised to do my measurements and only weigh once a week, same time and in the same clothes. I was also told that the further we get out, the more we need to slightly increase our Protein, water and calories because we are becoming more active. Don't be too hard on yourself-we are all new at this and it's weight we weren't able to shed before. It's working, you've gotten this far right?!
