Worried about water intake

Recommended Posts

I currently drink 99oz Water a day +. I'm always drinking water, all day. I'm so worried about being so thirsty and feeling like I can't get enough to drink after surgery. I've read where people get in *only* 20 oz of water!! Makes me feel anxious just thinking of that!

That is a good start if you can drink a lot. Right after surgery you are given like medicine cups and they want you to drink 1-2 ounces every 15 minutes up to 64 ounces if you get more in that's great just don't expect to much the first week or so

I was a big Water drinker before surgery and it was tough for several months getting used to not drinking as much. Just get in as much as you can. After surgery it is the #1 thing to do.

I gulp now and can drink a pint glass in nothing flat, I think I will miss drinking Water quickly more then food. When you are thirsty you are thirsty, or does being thirsty subside after RNY?

Ugh! Off to enjoy a bunch of Water while I still can.....

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
