Laverne1908 28 Posted January 14, 2013 Mine was a 300 questionnaire, a 40 minute conversation with psychiatrist, and he had me to take a quiz after. I completed my psych on 11/06/12.
Shannalee 65 Posted January 14, 2013 So mine had 165 questions & I think it only took me 20 minutes. I have an appointment this week with the doc about the questions. I don't know...I feel a little off about this part. I guess we'll see when I talk with the doc.

Sparklette 381 Posted January 14, 2013 I'm the only person that I know of who has failed the psych eval. I had a 165 t/f questionnaire and then a 40 minute session with the psych. The questionnaire is a survey taken by 300ish successful bypass patients and it is compared to ours to see if we will be considered 'successful'. Just answer the questions as honestly as you can, because you may have some underlying issues that you need to work out in therapy, like I did. In the long run, six months isn't that long, and it will make you more successful going through the next phase of your life. Just remember this is all about what's best for you, and what will help you and your journey.
Kathy Pitcher 102 Posted January 16, 2013 I'll be scheduling my eval sometime this week. I was wondering what kinds of questions did they ask? I'm not really nervous about it, I just want to be prepared.
Shannalee 65 Posted January 16, 2013 There really isn't much you need to do to prepare. Mine had about 165 questions and they all were true or false. They ranged everywhere but every once in a while one would pop out that would take me a second to answer or I was in between. One thing I can say is try not to over think the question. I think when I didn't do this I was able to truthfully answer the question. Some questions mostly deal with feelings but also actions. Like are you more a leader or more a follower? Do you allow yourself to get pushed around? Are you telling the truth when you are answering these questions? Thing like that.....just be truthful and don't over think it. I am learning that overthinking something can get you in trouble I had my hour session with the doc yesterday and he gave me a great review and said that I was ready for this. I am so happy that I passed this part. I always get so nervous when it comes to my head. I'm just happy I can move on to the next portion.....lab work!!!!! 4 iverina, tlynn4love, ElleG and 1 other reacted to this

mightyschratt 30 Posted January 21, 2013 Was anyone on depression medication? Is it okay to be on during the eval., and still be approved for RNY?
ginsyn76 51 Posted January 21, 2013 I took lithium and lamictal. I was still approved but the psych that did my eval is my regular therapist. I'm not sure if it matters I think it's just that you understand the process before during and after surgery and you are adaptable to the lifestyle change and that you are of sound mind and can make your follow up appts, eat the proper diet, and take your medications. A lot of people suffer from depression, anxiety, bi polar ect they just want to make sure you are under control long term and understand the risks and benefits.
