January 16 nervous and excited!????

Recommended Posts

Hello, my name is Tim and I'll be having my Gastric Bypass surgery on the 16th of January as well. Congratulations on your surgery date, I know how you feel now that it's only a few days away.

I wasn't so nervous... until I started talking to friends and family. These 'well wishers' haven't managed to reduce my excitement though, yet. I've had plenty of surgeries in the past (I got broken pretty well in my misspent youth) so that part doesn't worry me. It's the liquid diet and 2 ounce meals that have me a little shaken. I'm pretty sure I can take a two ounce bite out of a hamburger!

I know you'll do we'll, and I look forward to keeping in touch with fellow 16ths to track our progress. Good luck, Tim.

I just had my Gastric Bypass on Wednesday January 16th, 2013 and I feel pretty good already. I've been out of the Hospital for four days now and start the Stage 2 liquid diet on Monday. The weird thing is that I haven't been hungry yet. Two and a half days of crushed ice at the hospital; I used to just think of it as watering down my gin, but now, I like crushed ice! My energy is good, I think because I've been taking in a lot of Protein (60+ grams a day) since Friday, and I've started walking (shuffling) around the neighborhood a couple of times a day. There is some pretty good surgical pain if the meds start to wear off, so don't let it. When it hurts more, I tend to sleep more and that doesn't help. I am very excited that tomorrow I get pudding (Yea, pudding!).

Congratulations on your surgery. Mine was on the 16th as well and it feels good to be a week post op. I have my good and bad days but I don't regret it. I'm down 15 lbs! Looking forward to getting to know you! It's cool to have others with the same surgery date! Best of luck.

Wow that's great! Are you working out yet? I want to but at the same time I'm not sure if I should yet. I'm feeling hungry for normal foods because I think I'm getting sick of this liquid diet.

I'm looking forward to Monday when I get to start soft foods! I never thought I would say "Yay" to Cream of Wheat!?! I do feel lucky in that I haven't had any problems tolerating the Protein shakes, Soups or pudding. I don't know what I would have done if I couldn't tolerate chocolate pudding! I've been getting a lot of water/Crystal Light in as well as 75 or more grams of Protein a day. All in all I feel pretty good. I'd like to be walking more, but we've been in a real cold snap here in Maryland and its been snowing some and I just don't like being out in the cold. I had enough of that working for the railroad!

I'm glad you guys are doing well. If you've just started the liquid portion of the diet, it gets better. I've found that if I add a sugar free Popsicle to my Crystal Light and crushed ice, then shake it good like a martini, it not only tastes better, but it gives me something extra to do that takes my mind off the fact that I'm drinking Crystal Light. Good luck and good health,

Tim.

Not really working out, just walking a lot! I get head hunger, where I wanna eat foods that smell good or my favorites from before. My Dr. advanced me quicker, I only had to do liquids for a few days and now I'm just eating really soft foods.

Nice. I wish my doc did that. I'm stuck on this liquid for two weeks and I'm also craving food food (especially Italian food) oh man these Olive Garden and other food commercials are killing me.

The commercials are the worst!!! I'm Italian and I want Pasta so bad!! Everyday that the scale shows a lower number reminds me that I'm doing the right thing. Looking forward to Zumba!!

I think once we hit our goal and are in the maintenance phase we can add in more foods-- within reason. My surgery was Jan 16th and the last time I weighed myself was Thursday and I'm down 22 lbs. you?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
