Tricked into a starvation mode

Recommended Posts

Wow, that sounds very promising! It figures that they'd come up with a cure for obesity after I spent $14,000 to get mine under control.

It seems like their description of "starvation mode" is different than how most of us think of it. They discuss starvation mode as a state where the body stops making fat, and starts using it. Whereas we often hear lapbanders talk about the need to avoid starvation mode, because it's believed that it slows the metabolism and weight loss.

Interesting!

It IS interesting.

Phen Fen cured me in 1996, until it was found to be dangerous to some.

There are so many factors that lead to obesity. I hope one day a 'cure' is found, but for now, the band is keeping me in check.

But it will be interesting to watch this development.

Ah. Still praying for the magic pill? Someday, maybe. For now, it's back to the elliptical machine.

As I like to read, some of todays stuff is that 5 minutes of hard work followed by 15 minutes of lesser workout will burn more fat than 20 minutes of steady workout.

i actually agree with that. there is a "fat burn" heart rate (is it 60 to 70%) and a "cardio" heart rate (70 to 80%)

for example, if i work out for 27 minutes ...

1 1/2 mins is between 70-80%

the rest is between 60-70%

i burn 525 cals and 60% of that is fat burn. the highest percentage i have reached is 65%.

i do need to start working more on cardio now... :)

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
