3 weeks since surgery - food amounts...

Recommended Posts

I am 3 weeks post-op. I'm wondering how much people about this far out are eating for a meal. For instance: I'm having chicken cooked in the crock pot (so it's super mushy), and I feel staisfied after just over half an ounce of chicken. I tried tonight to get an entire ounce in and I was so uncomfortable (too full) after 0.8 ounces. I'm wondering if this is something others are experiencing? I feel like less than an ounce is not enough...

Everybody is different. The consistency of the food makes a difference too. I can't really eat that much in one sitting but I am usually hungry again in 2 hours and you are suppose to eat between 2-4 hours anyways so 1 ounce of chicken is pretty close to what I eat now in 1 sitting which is about 20-30 minutes for me but a few hours later I have another ounce. If you aren't getting what you need supplement with shakes. This is just my opinion if you really don't think you are getting enough maybe ask your doctor? I was told 2 oz (1/4cup) at first then 4oz (1/2 cup) per sitting. Hope this helps.

It does help, thank you. I guess I am just worried about it because I can't keep eating like every hour (which I can seem to do...) once I go back to work because I'm a teacher. I just want to be able to eat like 2oz of Protein in like a half hour! Haha. Maybe once more swelling goes down the restriction will ease a little, and I'll ask my surgeon when I see him next.

Abby, I'm a teacher as well. I make a Protein shake every morning with 8 oz of 1% milk, a scoop Protein powder, 1 packet of sf carnation instant Breakfast essentials. I drink 1/2 during first period and 1/2 during my planning period, which is at the end of the day. lunch is all Protein right now. The hardest part for me is the Water. I wait 30 minutes after the hake to start my Water and sip constantly until 30 minutes before lunch. I get in about 32 oz before lunch. The only problem.... I have to use the restroom every class period! I have to get the teacher next door to watch my class a lot! Good luck getting back to work. It actually helped me to get into a routine to get all my protein and water in.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
