From Lapband To RNY

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone!

I am new to the RNY community; I came from Lap Band Talk. I am currently in the process of trying to get a revision. I have not been successful with the lap band and my doctors now feel the lap band is just not as successful as anticipated. Some people do amazing with the tool and some of us don't. I am 4 months into my 6 month diet; cardiac clearance is complete along with my psych evaluation.

I still need the letter of necessity from my primary care Physician. I am nervous and haven’t asked for it, although we have already discussed this revision. I am one of those that don’t like asking people for things and GOD forbid if I have to ask more than once. I should mention this is a new PCP and I have only been there 2 months. My last doctor was a piece of work and I had to have my heart doctor get the letter of medical necessity from him because he was giving me a hard time.

I can’t wait to meet the healthy, skinny me. She’s in there somewhere… But first she needs a letter from her PCP

Welcome

I am four and a half weeks post op from revision from Lapband to RNY. I had my band for seven years. It just never helped me (or I didn't help it) lose very much and it did nothing to improve my diabetes or asthma. My PCP and all my specialists were very on board with me having the revision. I hope your PCP will be the same way. Wishing you the very best. Glad you came here. We are a great group with a lot of information and support, There are several who have or will be having the revision.

Thank You Vicki! I'm sure it will all work out, I have a very supportive team of doctors too... She's a new doc so I guess we just have to get to know each other.

How is your pain? How have you been feeling?

Hi, good luck with the letter but ASK for it! You deserve it. I am also a revision and am 6 weeks out. My journey was a hard one. Some have minimal pain mostly on the left by the ribcage. Some have pain so bad they can't breathe. The latter was never told to me. My Lapband was a breeze. No pain meds afer surgery and was driving the kids to school the next morning (sore). This was not the case this time. I had 3 hospital stays and my issue was infection in the intestine and pnuemonia. My suggestion is walk, walk, walk and breathe in the machine they give you! I was not very compliant due to my pain and it cost me. Excersing helps your bowels wake up and your lungs. When I was in the hospital the last time I was told that I would look back and laugh.

Well, today I can say haha! I am so happy I did it. Just remember that unlike the lapband, you HAVE to meet your protien and supplement guidelines or you will suffer from hair loss and more! Good luck.

Hope yiu don't see me as a downer. I knew best case and worst case of post-op but not he in between. I like to think I fell in between.

How is your pain? How have you been feeling?

I have done real well in the pain department. Needed the pain meds while in the hospital, and for a few days after I got home. But nothing that was not manageable. During my surgery I had my band removed, the gastric bypass, a lot of scar tissue removed and right at the end A Gyno doc came in and removed my ovary, cyst and a mass. So I really expected to be in a lot more pain with all that going on. But i did good.

I have had some down in the dump days and that is almost as bothersome as pain. At least pain you can take something for and it usually works pretty quick. These mood swings are yuck. I am already on prozac (have been for years) for depression, but there doesn't seem to be any quick fix for the moods.

I'm glad your doing so well. I have read some posts that have really scared me. Some of the post op experiences have been very hard. I'm worried because I was in so much paid arfer the lap band surgery. Hang in there Vicki. I know the depression will get the better when the weight is gone and you look in the mirror and see this new healthy beautiful confident woman (HUGS)

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
