My name is Melody and I'm 2 years and 2 months post RNY. My operative weight was 290#, I'm 5'0" tall, and I'm now 107#. That's my problem- I've lost too much weight; I look like a walking skeleton now. I can't seem to gain any weight. The highest I've gotten is 109#, but then I'll drop 2 or 3 pounds the next day- it's really frustrating. I'm taking all my vites, my bloodwork is all normal, but I'm not gaining. I know part of the problem is my stomach capacity. I had forgotten to advance from 1/4 cup portions to 1/2 cup portions like I was supposed to at 6 months post-op so since then I can only eat 1/4 cup portions at meal times; for some reason my stomach won't stretch. Does anyone have any ideas or advice for me? I'm seriously thinking about seeing if my surgeon will do something to stretch my stomach for me or partially reverse the surgery.

The only thing that comes to mind is maybe eating the 1/4 cup portions more often. Also maybe asking you doc about a supplement drink that is especially for putting weight on. My brother in law, before his double lung transplant, was so thin, he had to supplement his daily intake with a special Protein supplement type drink that was supposed to add weight to him. Wishing you the best, And thank you for sharing because we all need to know that we are all different and things can go so many different ways and as much as we all want to lose and lose fast, we can actually lose too much.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
