Hello New to Forum and surgery scheduled!

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to stop on and say hello to everyone. My bypass surgery is planned for January 24th so it is coming up very soon. I went to an all day seminar in June at the hospital to learn about the different options and started all my pre-requisites for surgery from there. Initially, I thought six months would take forever but the time has really gone fast. I finished up everything on November 30th and was approved for surgery on December 21. I am a RN and have done tons of research and feel very confident that I am making the best choice for myself to get my health back on track. Any advice is appreciated and I look forward to getting to know people :)

Thanks Vicki! I am sure I will have lots of questions as I move forward, especially after surgery. I am excited for my new journey and maybe a little nervous. I decided that I needed to get healthy again and have tried so many things over the last 5 years with not much luck. Low carb eating works some but I just don't lose much weight-only maintain. I never had issues until I started to gain weight at about 30 and was diagnosed with PCOS. The insulin resistance makes it so difficult. I have diabetes on both sides of my family and I just want to do everything in my power to not get it. Thanks again..

Nenie. I was just like you. I was diagnosed when i was 20 years old with pcos and insulin resistance. No matter what i did i could never get my insulin down. The lowest i ever got it was 15 which was still considered high. I had my sx on 8/22 and just had my 4 month post op labs in december. My insulin is 4 and my testosterone is normal for the first time. I also started to have my periods normal and was able to go off the birth control almost immediately. I have this sx was the best choice i could have made to reverse my pcos/ir.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
