I love wine. Especially Riesling. My husband is a wine maker and we live in the Finger Lakes Wine Country. It's a big part of who we are. I miss it more than any food. I'm waiting until Memorial Day to drink. I used to be able to drink 2 bottles of wine by myself. I'm excited that I will only need a glass now.

Giving up caffeine has been so hard for me to do, I had a headache for 4 days going off this stuff, I had no idea I was addicted to caffeine so much. I have been told by my dietition that I can not drink any caffeine after RNY sugery because caffiene strips the body of much needed Vitamins and nutrients and that we do not want that.

I'm not stopping cafe for nada in the world. I love cafe from every where. Starbucks it's my favorite. Went from venti to tall also. From mocha latte to skinny mocha with whip cream. Hell I love my whip cream. I don't over do it. From twice a week when I used to work to once every 2-4 weeks max. I switch from regular to decafe.

Starbucks Decaf is working great for me.

Does anyone know what the big deal is about caffeine? I can see in excess but a cup or two of coffee or tea a day? Why not?

Caffeine is a stimulant it makes you more hungry and irritates the bowels....

I'm fine with coffee but now have to use lactose free milk. Not allowed any booze until 3 months out which for me will be May 8th.

I was told coffee will irritate the stomach pouch but even worse is it's a dieuretic. You need to stay hydrated and caffiene interferes with that. I gave up caffiene several weeks ago, and it wasn't too bad aside from having headaches for a week. I was pleasantly surprised and very happy that I am sleeping way better now.

Alcohol is also a dieuretic. It's very bad for your healing stomach. Wine is acidic and will irritate it. With your changed digestive system you will become intoxicated sooner, on less, and it stays in your system longer.

I get very tipsy easily anyway and in my own experience, I eat more and have less self-control when I drink wine. Those two things could be very painful and maybe even dangerous after surgery. I believe it's best to follow your doctors instructions for success and to avoid problems.

only 3 months?! That's early! I was told 6-12 months. I'm waiting until Memorial Day.

I've also picked up a coffee habit in the last few weeks. I try to do Decaf, but I don't always. I want to ditch this new habit before it becomes too bad

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
