It's so weird how different surgeons have such drastic differences in their programs and guidelines.

I went to a seminar, then saw the surgeon, then was mostly on my own to schedule the nutritionist, psych eval, pre-op labs, and cardiologist. I only had to make sure the psych eval was done before I started the workshop and then after that had the nurse education appointment.

I read about people who have to have sleep studies and so many other tests, and how some people can't even meet their surgeon until a certain point in the process. I met mine at the seminar and the first appointment I has.

It's just weird. It's such a popular surgery now, you'd think the whole process would be more standard everywhere.

I agree, it seems like everybody has a different twist to their plan. Even the same group but different surgeons have different things they do and require.

Most people who have the sleep studies usually are getting clearance because of sleep apnea or are being checked to see if they have it.

There's also HUGE variations from my surgeon based on age and risk factors, other health problems, etc. my surgery is Feb 11, I turn 40in March. If my surgery was after my birthday I'd have to add a colonoscopy (which insurance WOULD NOT cover cuz I'm under 50 and not having problems so that woulda sucked,,,,,,)

I think it's mostly insurance requirements and not surgeon requirements.

I agree that it's mostly the insurance requirements that make each program different. Take for example.....I started my program November 1st and my mom started her process a few weeks after that. She has a surgery date of Feb 5th and mine will be sometime in May. I have a 3 month supervised diet and a 6 week pre-op diet, she does not. I have talked with my registered nurse about this and she is sort of worried about my mom's program. I have also had to schedule all my own appointments for testing and stuff. My case worker said that it would be easier for her to do it but it gives me the opportunity to be involved and see where I really am. She did say that because my surgeons office and doctors office are on the same system she will be stalking me to see the progress of my testings and other appointments. It has been a little annoying because I feel like I'm at a doctors appointment once or twice a week.

Do you know if a weight doctor that gives diets pill phentermine is an acceptable weight management program? I hops so because I did 6 months of weigh ins at the diet pill doctors office.

My surgeons office is requiring me to do it all as well. I already had my sleep study but my appt to meet with the surgeon isn't until jan 23rd ugh!! I wish I could get cracking on some of these test and lab work before hand. In trying to get this show in the road.

I'm not sure but it might not be. All depends on the doc & insurance & when you did it. You might have to do one with your surgeon but check with them early so if you did have to do another one you're not waiting forever.

Gosh, I didn't think about the Phentermine. I was on it for a year (yep that is a long time) and stopped taking it last December.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
