I need help.... I am so depressed. I am almost seven weeks out and I am only averaging around 2 pounds per week. I’ve only lost 9 pounds in the last 4 weeks. I am on my second stall. I was at the doctor's on Wednesday and when I asked about it they just said you should be averaging at least 5 pounds per week now and then just looked concerned. I get my fluids, Vitamins and Protein in almost every day. I'm even eating 700 calories a day which is more than most people at my stage. And no, my measurements have not changed. Waist is barley an inch smaller.

I just can't believe I had my insides altered for almost the same results I was getting before surgery. The Dr. told me to up my protein (only 10 grams which I was close to on most days anyway) and take a laxative (that has been an issue but it has not helped with the weight). I am just so scared right now and I am trying not to cry as I sit here and type this.

Any encouragement or kind words would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Heather

Heather... Please keep your chin up. I've been keeping up with your progress.. You are doing wonderfully and I know you think it should go alot faster. You need to exercise girl. I know you are exhausted when you get home but girl make yourself do it... It will increase your energy level I promise!!! Also increase your Calcium. When I hit a long stall I did that and it helped... Or something did!! Hugs your way and we are all pulling for you! Also if you are eating any carbs.. Like mashed potatoes.. Avoid them like the plague this week!!!

Sweetie I can't think of the right words to say right now, But know that I am thinking of you and hope things improve. Please, if you can, look at the long haul, not the short term. It is going to be worth it., It really is. Just know that there are people who understand and we love you so much. I will try to come up with some more wisdom later, lol, Right now I just want to send you a hug.

Thank you both!! I appreciate it!!!

Kristy, You are right. I am going to up the exercise but was told that even at this point the weight should still be coming off. I guess I am not one of those people. That's OK. I have to work harder.

The only carbs I am doing are the ones in the milk for my shakes and some that are in the vitiamins I take. Once in a while I have a a couple bit size Water crackers or a little fruit. I'll skip it for a while. I know I am really carb sensitive so this may be hurting. Good idea to really skip them.

Heather, Are you using my fitness pal? It is a great way to measure and see exactly what you take in and put out. I am close to 6 weeks out and only down 27 pounds. Everybody's body and how much weight they have to lose is different. I posted a chart on the other forum that I found that really helped me put it into persepective a week ago I was just like you. Super depressed thought I was the 1 person this surgery didn't work on. I still have those moments but I didn't lose anything from day 14 until 3 days ago. Everytime I lost a pound it would just come back the next day. My initial weight loss was 20 punds in 13 days so I think part of my problem was comparing that to the major slow down of weight loss. I have really been trying to hit the gym hard (which I hate everything about the gym). Our surgery dates are close and our weight is close too. That is the other thing, the less weight you have to lose with this surgery the slower it is going to come off. I have to remind myself of this stuff everyday and so do my friends and family. It is hard to go through something so dramatic and think it was for nothing but after reading so many other stories that have the same situations I am starting to realize everybody's wls journey is different. Hope that helps? Jessica

Heather,

Everyone's body is different and adjusts to the surgery differently. At 7 weeks out your body is still in shock and wants to hold onto everything you put in it. You have cut you daily calories by at least half. Your body is think what the hell is this chick thinking. Also I noticed that Water weight really changes the scale. The surgery works, but you have to be patient. Remember you did not gain the weight over night and it will take a little while for it to come off. Try to stay off the scale as much as you can and don't beat yourself up - it will come off!!!

I'm so sorry Heather! I wish I had the answers for you! Maybe try increasing your Water intake as well as Protein? Are you able to walk for exercise yet?

Jess and Music, Thanks! You are both right.

I am at about 27 pounds too. Logically, I have thought all you have said but the Dr. threw me for a loop and this morning UGH. I am feeling a little better thanks to all of your kind words and REALITY CHECK!!!! I have been stuck at this weight before so that doesn't help.

Ab, thanks!! :-)

This has been my experience. I was overweight by 80 lbs but had co-morbidities that made me eligible. Anyway, I'm 4 months out today & I've lost at most 2.5 each week. I don't think I've ever had a 5 lb weight loss in one week.

I agree that your body is on shock & it just takes time for it to catch up. The weight will come off & everyone is so different you can't base your numbers by others.

I know you'll get past this little hump soon.

We have the same surgery date. For the past 2 weeks I have been fluctuating between the same 8 lbs. I'm so frustrated. But starting next week I will be going to the gym even if it means I have to get up an hour earlier everyday just to get 30 mins of cardio in. I'm constantly second guessing myself to. Hopefully this is just a hump we are going through and we can get through this. I totally understand where you are coming from.

Heather I am only losing about 2 pounds a week. up until I got sick recently and that made a unnatural 10 pound in a week loss

but I know as soon as I can eat again and get Protein and Water in I will be back to slow losing. and exercise!! forget it!! I haven't been able to in a while. don't let it get you down. slow loss helps in sagging lose skin too so there can be a silver lining!! I think your doing great and on right track!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
