My name is Kristin. I had RNY 10-17-12. I am almost 3 months post op. I was having issues in the beginning with keeping things down and the smell of cooking meat. I have lost 57 pounds since having surgery. I weighed 254 and now weight 197. I have more energy than before. I'm able to play Dance Central on the kinnect w my children. I still have Hashimotos disease....which is a type of hypothyriodism. I'm glad I made this decision with my pcm. My husband is in the Military so I had my RNY done at a military treatment facility. It was the best decision I have ever made. I am now taking care of myself for a change.

That is awesome! I can't wait to go through the process to get mine. I am nervous about the dietary restrictions, but at this point I would rather be skinny and healthy then be able to eat junk

I feel you Amanda! I waited 8 months to get mine. The restrictions aren't so bad. You just have to get creative. I'm trying to incorporate Atkins into my diet. Its a life change! Have you read Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies? Its a great book!

No I haven't, I will have to look for it. I know several people that have had this type and lap band done. It's amazing the transformation. Although, the two people I know that had lap band had serious complications and had to have them removed.

It is a good book to have on hand before and after surgery. I was debating on the lap band in the beginning but I just couldn't get past the needle being inserted every so often. I also couldn't get past the foreign object in my body and the possibility of it slipping.

That is what happened to both of them. They also were always hungry, and I read that lap band does not deter hunger. Which is part of the reason I would rather have gastric

That's what I heard too. I had the minimal invasive surgery. I have 6 small scars. It was the best decision I have ever made for my health. It's only been 3 months but I'm used to not eating a lot. My friends are surprised on how little I do eat.

In the beginning I did because I was in pain and couldn't sit up by myself. But now I have so much energy and feel younger than what I am....no I do not regret my decision to have RNY.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
