How long did it take you?

From the beginning of your weight loss journey with your first appt until you had your surgery?

I am also curious what stuff you had to do; sleep study, ekg, etc before hand.

I made my decision in April, called insurance and got the name of an approved provider, called them and got an appointment in June. When received the surgeons info packet, called my PCP to start 6month supervised diet, that appointment was April 24th. Met with surgeon June 26th, then had pulmonary clearances, cardio clearances, psych eval, bloodwork, and meetings with nutritionist. Surgery was November 15th.

I had my first class at the beginning of Feb. and had surgery April 9th so a little over two months. The tests that your surgeon wants depends on the individual, age, overall health, etc. I am 54, so I had to have a colonoscopy, the endoscopy is required for any age, I had to have a sleep study, I just wore a contraption on my head at home so that was good. I did not have to do any diet before surgery either and I am in excellet health so it all went pretty fast for me, other may be different.

I went to a informational night the end of October. Went to see doctor in November. Went through the psych eval, nutritionist appointment, blood work. In December got my cardio clearance. A day after that got my approval. Went to support group two days later. Surgery date is January 22. Just had my EGD done today. Tomorrow is my pre op class and Friday is my last appointment with doctor than I'm done till surgery!

I watched a seminar online in october... I think. Had my first preop appt w surgeon 10/30 and had surgery 12/29- super good insurance. It was nerve wracking moving so fast. I kinda wish I had at least 3 month pre op diet to... Think. I'm 4 days post op and starting to feel a little better :)

wow that is fast!

My insurance requires 6 months of seeing a nutritionist. The place I am going through though, won't let you set that up until you see them. I am hoping to have it done over the summer. Here is to hoping lol.

My insurance requires a six month supervised diet as well.... first appointment was today, next appointment set for jan 30 then only four more to go.. I'm excited and anxious but I'm sure time will fly. Best wishes on your journey ;)

What do they do exactly during that? Is it a diet plan for now, or for after the surgery

They talk with me about my eating habbits. Then made a diet and exersize plan. Its nothing major. The surgeon wsnts to make sure you can follow a diet plan because in order to be succesful after surgery you have to watch what you eat and how much so thst you don't regain your excess weight. The insurance requires it to make sure you tried diet and exersize first. Its very informative. :)

Yes they told me how many calories I'm allowed per day and explained how many servings of carbs, Proteins, fats and vegetables I should have at each meal

I guess it won't be too terrible as long as they take in your food preferences

Lol I totally understand. But basically its the same concept. And the non starchy vegetables are free too. You can have as many as you want.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
