First day on pureed phase - and I wanted to puke

Recommended Posts

After 4 weeks on liquid diet, I was so very excited about the pureed phase of the diet. This morning, I had two egg whites with a little garlic and was in heaven. At lunch, I tried a 4 oz can of tuna with a tablespoon of light mayo. Felt like I swallowed a brick - or maybe a cinder block. Excessive salivation, light-headedness, tight stomach and general malaise. Ugh. Two hours later, I feel better, but may stay with Protein Shake or Soup this evening...

Anyone experienced something similar? Did I just over-eat? Your thoughts please.

tuna is one of the hardest things to get down... Has to be super moist and I can only do about 2 oz... Seems like you wouldn't have to chew the heck out if it but in realty you do!!!

I had the same issues with certain foods. Keep trying different types. Best for me was ricotta with marinara and a little Parmesan or FF refried Beans with puréed salsa and Greek yogurt for sour cream.

Try about an oz of canned chicken. I had the best success with that as my first meat. tuna is hard one day I was fine the next no go. Good luck!

Seems like the amount was excessive...maybe just overfull rather than dumping. >4oz is a lot for just being several weeks out.

I find tuna and chicken very difficult still at 10 weeks out. I did best with lean ground beef or ground turkey--try putting some salsa on it for moisture.

Blend the tuna with mayo until it's so soft. 2 oz may be enough now and u may increase it later. Take ur time chewing too.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
