Having second sleep test...

Recommended Posts

I failed my first sleep test and I'm having my second test this Friday. How long after the second test does it take to get the CPAP machine?

For me, I had to wait until my insurance approved the CPAP, so it took around two months. I'll be honest with you though...I've never worn it once. I did try! I guess I just never saw the point in it. I was told if I lose 15-20lbs. I won't need it anymore...and I expect to lose just that with the pre-op liquid diet, but we'll see!

lovealways,

I am having my surgery in Greenville PA. Dr. Christopher Meyers is my surgeon 1/14/2012. I see the surgeon on 1/2/2012 for details.

I am going to have to have a sleep study..my BMI over last 3 years is about 5 pounds to low for a 40 BMI:/ I have no comorbids so hoping I will have apnea as a comorbid for approval lol

My question is what qualifies u to fail a sleep study?

Well I was diagnosed with moderate sleep apnea. I stopped breathing or had shallow breathing 29 times in an hour. Idk what the limit is for failing though...

Well the second one is to basically test with the CPAP machine.

That test was the worse, but the nurse said you either have it or you don't. I was SO happy not to have it, but the test did show my heart beat was abnormal which I knew already.

Good Luck!! :)

I think I got my machine about 2 weeks after my second test.

I was kind of happy I fail...yeah I sucked, but now it's even more evident that I need the surgery and hopefully I won't get denied by the insurance company

I took my sleep study wed night..they said I have moderate sleep apnea & now I have to retest next wed with Cpap machine..my getting approved is dependent on me having apnea..so I'm assuming this is what I need to qualify? They said unless I had it I wouldn't qualify because my BMI is borderline...any thghts ?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
