Nothing tastes good anymore

Recommended Posts

Hello. I have been lurking for a couple of months now and found it very supportive to read I'm not the only one.

My problem as of late is nothing tastes good. Therefore I don't want to eat anything. I just don't know what to do!! My surgery was October 9 2012 and I have lost 52lbs.

Anyone else experience this?

My husband is going through the same thing. I'm looking forward to seeing if this is a phase or not. I've not had this problem. There have been things that didn't agree with me but the only thing that I wanted nothing to do with was BBQ and I'm ok with that now as long as it is not to sweet. He's 10 months out and 180 down and I'm 6 months out and down a little over 100 pounds.

I have had this issue also and sometimes it comes and goes. I am 2 1/2 months out. I have heard it will pass and it's just something that we go through but you have to also remember we don't get to eat the things we have always loved so food isn't "fun" anymore. At least that is what I have found. I don't want to eat if it doesn't taste yummy and make me happy and the foods that we eat aren't triggering the happy part in my brain so I don't want it.. That has been hard for me to get use to and I don't know if I ever will but that is what I have found to be my issue. :) I think it will pass if it's just about the food not the happy connection you have with it. Just my opinion. :)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
