I'm able to tolerate brown rice in very very small amounts. I make sure Protein is first, no drinking liquids 30 minutes before or after eating. I am post op May 2008...suffered a blockage and almost died 11 days after my first surgery. Had emergency procedure to fix and love where I'm at right now and would do it all over again!

Haven't had any yet and am 4.5 months out. My doc says it's not very nice to the pouch

I've had about a tablespoon of brown. I would not do more then that just out of fear it puffs up.

Rice = low protein/high carb. I stay away. Try a little quinoa if you're really jonesing for grains...

Moofish...I like this idea. You are right on the money.

I make a "salad" with chicken, quinoa, herbs, spices, and citrus juices. I don't eat grains very much, but when I do, it's a small amount of quinoa or a little bit of oats...

This is what I made for a holiday grain dish:

Saute a bunch of chopped shallots/onions in oil and add spices ( I used garam masala, coriander, and cumin). Cook till spices are toasty. Add to cooked quinoa (I used red) with grapefruit juice, chopped pistachios and dried cherries, and chopped parsley. Everyone loved this...

Sounds good. I like quinoa but havent done much with it due to just being my daughter and I and she wont eat it. Sam's club has a big bag of it cheap. Maybe I should try it in meatloaf

It works great in meatloaf! Also, as a hot Cereal in the morning.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
