:help:

I am curious as to what the total out of pocket you had to pay for this surgery, Psych, Consult, Deductibles, etc...and what ever else I am forgetting about. I need to get a good idea so I can start preparing. I know all is different, but a ballpark is better than nothing...for now.

Thanks in advance,

Rosanna

I actually lived in TN when I had my surgery and it was $13,500.... everything.

Dr Grossbard in Zephyrhills/Tampa area has started a Lapband clinic with an outpatient surgery....so he's cheaper too.....

I am curious as to what the total out of pocket you had to pay for this surgery, Psych, Consult, Deductibles,

I went to the Drs. informational meeting the other night here in Charlotte. He said he is now using two of the big hospitals in Charlotte for his paitents with ins. The cost runs between 21k and 23k. That doesn't include the pre op consults, I don't think. He went on to say for Lap Band patients who wish to self pay he is now doing them at a outpatient surgery clinic for $14,900 and it also includes one year of follow up by him and his team. I think the pre op consults are not included, I don't think and they are $600. My wife had surgery at this clinic a year ago and I was very impressed...clean, nice place, very friendly staff, very professional, etc. I don't think this clinic handles any insurance cases....just self pays. (In other words they do boobs, noses, Lap Bands, etc.) I'd go there in a heart beat but BCBS of North Carolina just changed their policy and is now approving lap band surgery!! So I guess I'll go to the big hospital.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
