the day before surgery question

Recommended Posts

so we live 52 miles from the hospital where I am having surgery, and guess what, 70 % chance its going to snow where I live and where the hospital is at, on Monday the 31st.

Well sunday the 30th is my day before and have to drink that stuff magnesium citrate to get cleaned out.

with only Water type liquids and SF popsicles, and Jello and broth.< /p>

What time did you all drink that stuff? and how long do you think it took to clean you out? and the spasms stopped from needing to run to restroom?

reason I ask is because hubs and I decided to leave around 8 pm to head to the town i have to go to and get a hotel room to spend the night due to the weather. just want to be sure I dont have to pull over 20 mins down the road, takes barely an hour to get there. what do you think?

Hippie gal

If you can and it is probably going to cost the same I would get to the hotel much earlier and check in and drink the mag stuff there and then you won't have to worry about traveling after taking it., Maybe you could check in around three or so and that would give you plenty of time to drink it and be done by bedtime. I think getting there close to the hospital with the weather threatening will make you feel so much more relaxed. Thinking of you today and praying for you tomorrow, It is going to be a brand new year and a brand new you. Big Hugs

That stuff works really well and fast. I would check in early and take it. I would also drink it cold! If you feel like you have to pass gas don't! Go to the restroom!..lol Good Luck!

It says it starts working as 30 minutes after drinking. I would hold my breath and drink as much as you can take a drink of Water and repeat that process. I would also recommend the lemon or cherry flavors. It can make you gag.. I just take deep breaths and keep drinking water.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
