Eating Anything and Everything!

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I am just a little over two weeks out from surgery, and I find that I can eat anything without consequence. This is pretty disappointing, as I was expecting to at least have some belly pain or even dump from certain foods, but I haven't so far, and I feel like I am pushing it. I am not very headstrong with my diet lately, and its only been 16 days! My significant other was eating a big ol' bag of lays barbecue chips in bed next to me... and I jumped right in and started munching, thinking "just a few and I'll chew them really well" but I ended up eating about 15 handfuls. Not even a stomach ache. I was also bad on Christmas and had a big bowl of cheesy buttery broccoli casserole and some mashed potatoes. I know I shouldn't be eating so much... heck I'm supposed to have just started my purée diet on Christmas Day, but I have been eating more than I expected, and I think it's all in my head. I still crave food, and that's the issue! I just give in! How do you guys deal with your cravings without giving in, especially if nothing makes you sick?!

Very soon your tummy's feelings will return from surgery and you won't be able to eat so much at all! And if you really want the surgery to work you really better gain some control! Find other things to do that you enjoy besides eating!

I'm having the same issue. I'm 4 months out and I can eat chips and even and entire donuts with no dumping. It scares me to gain my weight back but it's hard to resist.

Have you been losing a lot of weight despite being able to eat so much?

I have myself in the same boat! Not only do I not dump but I find myself being able to eat more than I should be able to. With little to no discomfort. But in your case (I'm 5 months post) but your nerves are still healing. If you don't feel full or discomfort you should soon. I remember this topic when I was fresh out and it seems to be true.

I was told not to eat & drink at the same time but I find myself being able to. Disappointed but it's what I make of it. Wls is a tool. Best of luck! BBQ chips..... Yumm lol

My weight loss has stalled. Not loosing but not gaining either. I upped my workout and I'm even hungrier now.

You guys might find some helpful tips in my post "Managing Hunger" - http://www.rnytalk.com/topic/1493-managing-hunger/page__hl__%2Bmanaging+%2Bhunger .

Over half of all bypass patients never experience dumping. The good news is that there is no scientific evidence that folks who experience dumping are any more or less successful than folks who don't. You can read more about dumping in my post "Dumping the Confusion About Dumping" - http://www.rnytalk.com/topic/2665-dumping-the-confusion-about-dumping/page__hl__%2Bdumping+%2Bthe+%2Bconfusion+%2Babout+%2Bdumping .

Follow the protocol as closely as you possibly can, stay active and stay away from the scales for a week, two would be even better. You're gonna love the new you!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
