tinabree 22 Posted December 27, 2012 I have a question, the doc said no alcohol for 1 yr and others say 6 mo and sooner. What does it do to you (besides get you drunk).
kristy3k 1,133 Posted December 27, 2012 makes you fat! Empty calories!! Alex has posted on here several times about how high alcoholism becomes in RNY patients. Im sure there are more but that seems to be enough for me!
MyTimeToLose 41 Posted December 27, 2012 Agreed, empty calories is the biggest. Also you get drunk easy on very little alcohol and the addiction rate with bypass surgery is very high, so if you do make sure it is very little and doesn't become a daily or even frequent thing. jpr99 17 Posted December 28, 2012 Here is an article I read some time ago about WLS and alcohol. http://abcnews.go.com/Health/Wellness/weight-loss-surgery-increases-risk-alcohol-addiction/story?id=16582225#.UN2tgeQ80xE
DLCoggin 1,788 Posted December 29, 2012 It's also an irritant that can be a contributing factor to developing an ulcer at the anastomosis. I know. Just diagnosed last week. No pain, no symptoms, I feel absolutely great. The only clue was the smallest amount of blood that showed up in a stool test. A glass of wine before dinner is (well was) my limit but regardless, the ulcer is there and I didn't drink a drop until I was six months out. I'm thinking waiting a year might be very good advice.
