Hang in there. It gets better. Not sure what phase you are in liquids, thicker liquids, or mushies. Thicker liquids I was able to take bean/bacon Soup and blend it some more with Water. It was really good. I also got Won Ton Soup for liquid phase and took out the won tons. I did the same with chicken noodle soup, just strained it. It had more flavor than just plain broth.

Just think of the weight you have lost. WOW, so much. I didn't lose that much as fast. This will pass and you will be on your way. This is the time for healing.

Good luck and welcome to bandland.

Move to creamy Soups. They were a life saver for me. Are you on mushies yet? If so you can have the creamy ones with vegies in them like cream or broccoli. If not, eat them anyways and just avoid what is in them like the chicken . They will really fill you up. Good luck.

We need to know what food stage you're on before we can recommend foods for that stage.

I am very discouraged by the reactions I am getting from family and friends. I have been turned down by Kaiser, switched to Blue Cross at open enrollment only to find it is excluded by my policy, and was getting ready to pay out of pocket here in Portland. Then I came across Dr. Roberto Rumbaut of the Obsesity Surgery Center of Monterrey. After researching his practice and the hospital in Monterrey, Mexico where he practices, I opted to go forward. Some of my friends are thrilled for me, but my daughter and sister say I can't change, that it is too drastic, that it is Mexico for heaven sakes.

I know I can do this. 12 years ago I made a dramatic lifestyle change when I admitted to be alcoholic and stopped drinking. Never looked back. Now I want to do something else for my health and well being. I would love some words of encouragement, as well as any comments from Dr. Rumbaut's patients.

Thanks.

Donna

Scheduled for banding 5/9/07

I am getting banded by Dr. Ortiz at Obesity Control Clinic in Tijauna Mexico tomorrow. He charges $8,500 and he is one of the best doctors in the world who perform this surgery. He has performed over 4000 lapband surgeries and he wrote a book called Lap Band For Life. Go to his website www.drortiz.com and check it out. He trains some of the doctors in the U.S. on this procedure. I know it sounds scary to go to Mexico for surgery but that is only a perception of Americans. We think the U.S. is the best for surgery and that our doctors are more qualified than others. However, there are many doctors here in the U.S. that were trained overseas. Check out www.lapbandforum.com for Dr. Ortiz patients. They have a lot of good info and I researched this for several months before making a decision. You will read how please everyone is with Dr. Ortiz and his staff. You just need to check it out for yourself.

I haven't told very many people that I am going to Mexico for this because I know the reaction I will get. My husband is very supportive but I'm not telling my teenage children. They would freak out about me have any type of surgery!!!

Just research your options and go to www.lapbandforum.com and read the entries. It will suprise you as to how positive everyone's experience was at the Obesity Control Center in TJ, Mexico.

Good luck!!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
