I am miserable. I had my lap band surgery one week ago. I have never gone through as much intense pain, discomfort, and overall depression as I have in the last week. The gas pain from not being able to burp is killing me. The liquid diet is killing me. I tried to eat a couple bites of a scrambled egg last night and was up until 4:30 this morning vomiting, hurting, and feeling like I wanted to cut my stomach open and rip this thing out. I don't know what to do. My doctor's office isn't much help.

I can't offer much help. But let me suggest gasX strips for the gas. It seemed to help me. The other thing is a heating pad helps too. Don't give up, it gets a little easier and better.

Didn't your doctor tell you to stay on liquids? If so, for how long. The reason is they don't want you to be digesting food and having the stomach working so much while you are healing. Also, they don't want you to throw up because your band can slip.

Most people have trouble with scrambled eggs so unfortunately that was not a good choice to cheat with. You need to go back to liquids for a day or two, even if you are allowed something else. After a PB (our version of throwing up) you should always go back to liquids to give your tummy a chance to heal.

I found a heating pad worked wonders for me with the gas. Also keep moving around, walking as much as you can. This helps get the gas out of your system.

Good luck to you.

I dont know sounds like it maybe something else. "intense pain" I never had intense pain I think you should make sure you band is in the right place. Something doesnt seem right and if you feel like something isnt right demand to get it checked out. It is your right as the patient and you may have to get assertive. Good luck and update us when you can

One thing that helped me with both the gas pain and the general discomfort was walking. And walking. And walking.

I was hungry pretty soon after surgery but you really do have to stay on the liquids. Try chicken noodle Soup Soup At Hands, which are very satisfying. Also a Protein shake made with ice can still be liquid but thicker, so that feels a little heavier, if you are hungry.

Where did you have your surgery? What kind of pain meds are you on? Depression and a general sense of sadness/blah are normal after any surgery and after having anesthesia. You may be having a normal medication side effect. The faster you can get off your pain meds, the less depression you may suffer.

But I am a big weinnie and would rather be in a depressed mood than in pain though.

Just keep checking in on here for support too. This site is great!

I found the way I got through liquids was to blend up REAL food, not stick with juice, shakes etc.

SO when the family had spaghetti bolognaise, I would blend it up with an extra can of tomatoes and get about six meals out of it. It was soupy, would pass up a straw, and I gradually thickened it up over time. That way I was getting real vegetables, real meat and real carbs and truly, hunger was no problem at all to me.

Before I did that I did V8, Optifast, Water etc for a few days and I was soon passing out and disoriented. Real food was the way to go, it just has to be the right consistency. I cooked myself up a huge pot of vegetable and lentil Soup too and that was like heaven!

take your painkiller! if you don't have any--call the surgeon--they can prescribe some. you shouldn't be in INTENSE PAIN! that's what painkiller is for. discomfort--yes--terrible pain--no. they can even prescribe it in liquid form--works great!

feel better soon! (and stay on liquids--get some Optifast or slim fast or something like that).

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
