Underwear During Surgery?

Recommended Posts

Wow,

You all seem to have some great birth experiences with the pooping and the stirrups and the interns. I think I was lucky with my darkened room, gentle music, one midwife and no stirrups.

I just had surgery on my hand two weeks ago in the UK and was not asked to remove my underwear, so my mind was just doing some overtime on the whole foreign country, unconscious, legs in stirrups scenario. Or quite possibly I am focusing on a minor aspect of the surgery to deflect from the more major aspects?? Quite possibly!

Thanks for the laffs anyway ...

LOL.....LOL.....LOL....LOL.....Wheetsin....your response was so funny. I didn't worry about no panties because my inner thighs had such huge rolls that it didn't matter how far apart I spread them there was no way anyone would have been able to sneak a peek of my hootchie for the rolls of fat in the way. :embarassed:

This is the best thread I've seen in a while! I am sure everyone in my office is wondering what I'm smoking today sitting here laughing hysterically but I don't care.:)

I did have my monthly the day of surgery and they gave me a huge pad and some mesh panties. Don't know if they stayed on or not, I assume they did but really couldn't care less. As many nekkid people as they see, I would feel honored if they wanted to catch a glimpse at my hoo ha! :heh:

Off the subject, but it still concerns undergarments. Had my EKG stress test yesterday. Pants, running shoes, paper vest, lots of wires but no bra!

Holy cow when they turned up that treadmill and was RUNNING my boobs were flopping like crazy. Surprised I don't have two black eyes this morning! Giving birth is one thing, bouncy boobs is just embarrassing!

I think they lied to me. Here're the very last things I remember:

I'm laying on the table, they're still trying to make the table long enough and someone else is putting compression thingies on my legs.

Anesthesiologist: I'm just going to give you some oxygen... (mask goes on crooked)

Thinking to myself: Great, with the mask on crooked I'm NEVER going to go under, all the gas will leak out. Doesn't he know what he's doing? What a dumba...... zzzzzzz...

(I never had "oxygen" put me to sleep before.)

BTW, the Happy juice they gave me kind of removed what little filter I have to begin with. And made me a "little"...weird. I was apaprently being very sarcastic and very critical. I don't remember much of this, but I hear it from my husband and parents. I had my surgery on Ash Wednesday, which has no significance to me so it's not something I was really aware of. Add to that the effects of the medication. I had two nurses near me with the ash crosses on their foreheads. Apparently I told one of them her tattoo was stupid and made her look like Charles Manson, she shoud tell her tattooist they owe her a lot more than a refund.

The other was in recovery, and I kind of berated her, but I have only the faintest memories of it - telling her that she should be ashamed of herself, working in surgery and coming to work that dirty... grime smudged all over her forehead... and I told her she needed to go wash herself before she gave me an infection. :rolleyes

LMFAO!!!! Oh, too funny! That would have been great to see.

The mask contains oxygen. They put it over your face, and no doubt at the same time, are administering The Good Stuff via your IV.

Your mentioning the oxygen reminded me that my mask was put on just before he said he was going to hook me up (so to speak ).

This thread is hilarious.

This is a fun thread. They told me to pick a dream and next thing I knew I was in recovery wondering what was going on.

No undies here. And I didn't care in the least. Underwear was the farthest thing from my mind. I mean - if I didn't mind laying there with no bra on, and my flab hanging all over the table, a naked pooty in the room with medical professionals certainly wasn't going to phase me. I mean - I have paps, and there the person is trying to look... during the surgery, any sight would be incidental.

Never heard of doing the surgery between someone's legs. My incisions are too high up, there's no way unless someone was laying on top of me.

:spit: Love it.

No underwear here!

I asked; I didn't have a catheter, still required to be bucky.

From my experience, it's in case something (god forbid) goes wrong, and they might have to quickly insert a catheter, and do some more intense surgery than planned. Having the patient be nekkid is one less step in the event of an emergency.

And I'm totally down with that.

Make sure to stop the bleeding and make sure I stay alive --- don't worry about the Lane Bryant Victoria Secret knock-offs. LOL!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
