heygirl_143 1 Posted December 21, 2012 Hey everyone! I am new to the forum! I was wondering if anyone has been told by their insurance provider that they needed to follow a supervised diet for 6 months with a doctor, before insurance will approve it? I just went through all my other evals and drs appts to get cleared for the surgery only to have my insurance provider say this after the fact. I've been overweight my whole life, and I've done all the diets! If I had success losing weight the "old fashioned way" would I be prepping for this surgery? I think not! Lol, anyways, I live in CA. Does anyone know how to dispute this? Thanks for reading!
kristlynngirl 184 Posted December 21, 2012 I have to do the same. I don't think there's anyway around it. Unfortunately.
cathyh 33 Posted December 21, 2012 I have to do the same for my insurance, no way to dispute it, it's their mandatory requirement for coverage.
jaymi2521 13 Posted December 21, 2012 I had to do the weight for 6 months. Showing that I was making an attempt to lose on my own. But luckily before I started the whole process I was already going to my regular doct where I had six consecutive months of weight. Check that out first
heygirl_143 1 Posted December 21, 2012 Unfortunately, I wasn't seeing a Dr for the last few years because I didn't have insurance. Ok then, will I have to go through all the other dr's appts again? I've seen the Nutrionist, had an endoscopy done, done the cardio-pulmonary stress test, had the abdominal ultrasound, gotten the psych eval and had all my bloodwork done. These test results won't "expire" will they?
pookybear 284 Posted December 21, 2012 They might, depending on how long the gap is. I waited two years to restart and had to do everything again.
jaymi2521 13 Posted December 22, 2012 I think they will expire. Saying that because I had my heart checked the end of last year for other reasons, and I wanted to use that test, and they said NO because it wasn't with in the time period if when they started this process
joyaskins34 31 Posted December 22, 2012 Doing diet now I will be done in April! there is NO way around it ..your insurance coordinator @ surgeons office really should have warned u about the diet:/... Dunno what insurance u have but I have blue cross. also make sure u go within the same time every month to see the doc who monitors ur diet and weigh in.example if u go on the 7th make sure u go back the following month on the 7th or within about 2 days after . ..if u go to early or to late it will not be excepted! lolawaiting 83 Posted December 22, 2012 I didn't have to have 6 months. My first inquiry was oct 30th and I'm having surgery 12/29. I kinda wish I had to have it. It feels too fast. I'm really scared, confused and nervous. I just don't know if I've really, really tried to commit to losing weight and in the back of my mind I keep wondering if I really tried if I could lose and keep it off wo surgery. I mean if I could, why haven't I already right? I'm just so scared of being sick afterwards. I teach elementary school and can't feel weak or drained and really need to go back after 2 weeks. And I just started seeing this new guy and I'm scared of not being "normal." I know I should be happy I don't have to wait, but I'm wondering if I should cancel :/

Lol Maybe u r just doing what alot of people do and second guess your decision .I am sure what your feeling is probably completely normal! Keep us posted and hang in there!
