I am being bandedd the day after tomorrow (Aug 19th) by Dr. Ponce. What should I take along? My wife and I were hoping to get by with carry=ons so plane transfers would be simple. I know...loose shorts, sweats....what else?

How long will you be staying? Will you be spending the night in the hospital? I think Dr. Ponce performs the lapband as an outpatient procedure, so you won't need to take anything for a "hospital stay" if that's the case.

Slip on shoes, like flip flops. You won't want to bend over to tie tennis shoes ect...

Don't take a whole lot, you won't need it, carry on luggage should be no problem.

I would recommend some chewable Gas-X :)

Congrats on your surgery! Please keep us updated as to how you do post op! Don't be a stranger and welcome to band-land!

Bring a book

Mexico has there own time shcedule. I was told to bring a book for the pre-op tests and I did not listen, there is alot of waiting around in Mexico if your appointment is at 9 that really means 11 in Mexico

Bring you patience too..like I said Mexico is on their own time shcedule

Since you are flying and it will be a long day home, I would reccomend some adult strength liquid tylenol know they carry it at Wal Mart and Sav-On in case you have a little soreness or uncomfortableness.

I was also told to bring a few Snacks for my husband and that was great advice, the hospital where I had my surgery (the oasis) is a Vegan hospital, no meat. So those Snacks came in handy for him. The hotel on the other hand had fantastic food so no worries there for him.

Good Luck to you Dave, Let us all know how things went once you are feeling up to it.

Dr. Ponce is in Georgia. But my trip to Mexico wasn't filled with a lot of "wait time". They picked us up at the hotel at 7:00am Monday morning, I arrived at the hospital at 7:20, did some paperwork with Admissions, then immediately went to get into my "lovely" gown. I had absolutely no wait time. I was in surgery a little after 8:00am.

Every doctor/hospital is a little different, it's neat hearing about everyone's experiences and how they differ.

Dave, best of luck to you on your banding journey. Here's to an easy surgery and recoup time! Whatever you pack, cut it in half. I was banded locally. Got there at 5 a.m., on the operating table at 1 p.m. But I guess I want the surgeon to take his time with me, also. Best of luck to you! Please keep us posted.

Where are you having the sugery at; Memorial Hospital and Hamilton medical? Either place both the sugery will be an outpatient procedure, unless you have complications. Good Luck. Just wear something comfortable, becuase once you get there, they will have you undress completely and wear only hospital gown and some orange air flow socks. I had my surgery at Memorial hospital. I had to be there at 10:30am and was being cut at 11:44am and was done by 1:10pm and went home at 4:30pm.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
