Guest Krysia Posted February 10, 2007 Well, I for one am never going to use Splenda again... This is my second time using it -- with sugar-free pudding, and I have never burped so much in my life. That pudding was eaten well over two hours ago, and my stomach still feels bloated; this sucks. Think I'll stick to natural sugar in moderation; I can tolerate the extra 2 calories more than I can tolerate this gas and burping! It's so bad it's actually making me nauseous --- off to take some phenergan. Again. <sigh>
NJChick 3 Posted February 14, 2007 Great thread !!! If I have to much Splenda I get wicked headaches so I prefer the other evil, SweetnLow (although I try not to use to much of that either). I know a few people who have wound up in the hospital using artificial sweetners, my boss (in NY) had wicked heart palpitations and they linked it to the sweetners and a friend (in Florida) fainted, and had some sort of seizure...the hospital linked it to the artificial sweetner she was using... Its scary stuff folks but like the one poster said... to each his own. I love my tea sweet, but I'm trying to drink it with one teaspoon of real sugar or honey instead. One thing I do notice is the more artifical sweetners I use during the day, the stronger my cravings for sugar gets... and I wind up binging...... sigh. . NJChick 3 Posted February 14, 2007 Lauren good article, thanks I never ate / drank artificial sweetners thinking it was healthier, I was always trying to save on calories and curb my sweet tooth, but the more diet drinks I drink... the more I want, but I want the real thing it seems LOL. travelbug 0 Posted February 16, 2007 I am totally confused. All of the food suggestions post band are sugar free this and that.....which means they are artificially sweetened with something. So are we better off with sugar free products or with limited sugar products? I know we should be avoiding sugar/sweets in general....I use one packet of splenda in my tea each morning....should I be concerned? Please point me in the right direction. Thanks. anonemouse 1 Posted February 16, 2007 Personally, I believe that we are better off with limited sugar products. After all, most of them aren't going to make you fat if you indulge once in a while, it's just over-indulging that gets you in trouble. One of the reasons (besides the metal taste) that I avoid artificial sweeteners is that I don't like the idea of putting all those chemicals in my body. Another reason is that I just don't really eat that much sweet foods, and never have. If I am limited in what I am eating anyway, I figure that I might as well eat the real thing. Now, if you are a cola or candy addict, of course the sugar free is better for you in the long run. But I would personally eat limited amounts of real sugar than a lot of sugar substitute. Asmallerchick 0 Posted February 16, 2007 I'm convinced that drinking diet Snapple and Crystal Light, which contain aspartame, is hindering my weight loss. Since being banded, I'm drinking 2-3 Snapples a day, instead of the 2-3 regular Cokes I used to drink. Considering how well I'm doing with my food, I really should be losing weight faster. The only problem is that I absolutely hate drinking Water or any unsweetened beverages, so I can't come up with a good alternative. Try lemon or lime or another citris like orange squeezed in Water for the flavor, and they are a natural sugar so you won't get the up/down feeling. Lemon is also great for you skin and as a diuretic when your retaining water.
Pickles 0 Posted February 19, 2007 I just wanted to add that you can indeed purchase Stevia in the US. I buy it quite often at my local health food store. Vitamin Cottage, Whole Foods and Wild Oats all sell it. :biggrin1: I used to use Splenda until I started to research it more... Now I only use Stevia in my herbal tea
Valentinebaby 0 Posted February 22, 2007 What about this sugar substitute product called "WheyLow" I have yet to try it but have heard people talking about it.
